it is good to lift heavy/intensly on a cutting diet. I did a 5x5 bench program while dieting (although not sure why I did.lol). I put a good 40lbs. on my bench and dropped bodyweight from 197-188 while off cycle. This was about 2 years ago now, and I was 21 at that time, so age played a factor.
Just don't do a high volume, heavy weight workout. Keep it very simple, with compound movements. Healthy fats a couple hours before you workout will help too.
