Funny you ask that question. My wife is always trying to get me to go somewhere and take a vacation. I'm on constant vacation. I really don't mean it as it sounds, but the majority of my life has been on my own time. Even when I was wrestling, I toured saw the world and did a 15 min match at night. I have so many projects and varied incomes that it allows me to do what I want, such as go to the gym, spend time with my family and do the hobbies that I enjoy. I love my house, and being creative with art, graphics, guitar, computer website building, etc. Now putting together a reality TV show is a real challenge but it's just about there. These things do require time as if I had a job. Maybe I put more hrs into this than if I went to work 8 to 5. My mind and creative thinking and talent works around the clock. No break for me. Even if at the beach, I'm thinking of something do do with marketing myself or a product.
I grew up in a small town 100 miles north of LA. I hated it. Small minds, no chance for growth, hot in the summer , foggy in the winter. My dream was to live at the beach in Santa Monica. I did do that. I wrestled on the road for many years, saw many places and still decided that this is the place for me. 15 min from the beach, mountains, desserts, etc. Universal Studios is just down the street, Disneyland 30 min, etc. Where would I go to have all of this??? No where that I can imagine.
So, when my wife or Mother in Law says, 'Ric doesn't like to travel", they didn't live the first 40 years of my life with me on the road, and will NEVER understand my thinking. They feel that since I was remarried at 43 that I should have done everything all over again with my wife. HMMMMM, I've already had 3 phases of my life and all 3 different.
So, hopefully you know what I mean. If you're happy with yourself and your environment, then that's all that matters. I don't need to run away or vacation from a gruling 8 to 5 job. My life is full as it is.
