Ah, the Swiss mercs were infamous for doing that to native americans back in the day when they were under British employ. I'm sure the colonists had done it as well, but I remember reading that the first person to do it was a Swiss Mercenary colonel in the British army at Fort Pitt that gave them smallpox blankets while the natives laid seige to Fort Pitt, which was unusual for indians to do.
