I do mine with 25kg plate for 3 sets of 5.
High reps are fine, but at this point in time I want mass in my back and nothing beats low reps with heavy weights.
If you are stuggling with them it must be that you never have done them first in your routine. I had the same problem until about 1 year ago I got fed up of having trouble with them. I rearranged my routine and placed them as both my general upper body warm-up and my max effort exercise for UB. It took a while, but I am happy with the results. As an aside some extra arm size was a welcomed addition.
