Me personally around 45 minutes is max for me. Most of the guys that spend hours in the gym 80% are standing around bull shitting or take long ass breaks in between lifts. It's funny you talking about that guy that trains for 2-3 hours and looks really good. I got a buddy of mine that really half ass his workouts, always has, and looks like he spends hours at the gym. Go figure lol. I really just go buy how I am feeling for that day. Sometimes work just kicks my arse, and I know it's going to be a short day in the gym. I have my cardio days seperated from lift days, and with cardio same thing never over 45 minuts and i am outtie 5.
