I agree. I always ensure that my protein intake is the highest out of all macronutrients. I know some people have specific ratios, (which is probably better to keep track) but I definately would lower the carbs a little, and up the Protein. 3500 cal is probably a good target. I wouldn't fret if you are a little below that level (3300 -3400 cal) because you are only 165 lbs, and you should easily be able to gain from that many calories. Obviously as you gain more lean mass, you will need to increase your portions again and again.
