Immediately after a workout you should ideally consume approximately 40 grams of fast digesting protein and carbs. Also add to this 5-10 grams of BCAA's. This will cause a rapid spike in insulin levels which will drive the amino's and glucose from the carbs into your muscles which has a direct effect then on growth and also recovery of your muscles. A paralleling effect is the blunting of cortisol which in excess causes muscle atrophy so keeping these levels low is critically important.
