Book Review -- Angels and Demons by Dan Brown
The book catches your interest from the first chapter. It delves into the secret society of the Illuminati, the Papacy, and a little into the Freemasons. I decided to do a little research on the Illuminati because the book's depiction of the Illuminati and Freemasons doesn't jive with what I had always heard or read. The book is off on both secret societies and not at the same time. The illuminati wasn't necessarily started by scientists that opposed the oppression of the church into matters related to science and God, but desired to express that God and Science are entertwined. That wasn't how the illuminati started. The book also said that they sought asylum in the order of the Bavarian Freemasons. That isn't necessarily true either, but according to Freemason history, the Freemasons started in England and sought to expand its charters throughout Europe and America. One of the Freemasons came to Bavaria and sought to create a new secret society called the Illuminati. The Bavarian Illuminati was first organized by Adam Weishaupt and Baron Adolph von Knigge. However, since this organization was first brought to light in Prussia, it was the ideal place to organize and grow their numbers like sending missionaries to other countries in Europe. The reason Prussia was an ideal place to start was due to Prussia being a protestant nation that was a precursor to the US in the fact that Prussia and Frederick the Great espoused the seperation of Church and State and promoted the freedom of religion, so in Prussia there could be no oppression from Catholicism. Knigge and Weishaupt promoted a freedom from church domination over philosophy and SCIENCE. However, two other prominate members, Robison and Barruel, saw a call for the utter destruction of the church.
Alot of what I mentioned was told to me somewhat by Freemason members as well as by people who are historians rather than just these internet conspiracy sites. Does the Illuminati still exist? Who knows and who cares. But the book is one helluva spun yarn.
