I remember this used to be sorta controversial, people use to say oil with oil, water with water.... something to do with pain from shots.

Do water based steroids hurt more or less if you mix it with oil based gear.

dunno about pain from shots, but I do know that under normal conditions water and oil do not mix. From what I understand winstrol injections hurt, period. Some of my test e (oil) injections hurt like hell, others I never noticed. Interestingly there was recent work in chemistry by an Aussie scientist who found that if you remove all the dissolved gases from the oil and water (not expensive or terribly difficult to achieve industrially) they actually do mix. The old adage 'oil and water do not mix' is not entirely correct. It seems to be the intermolecular interactions with the dissolved gases that cause polar and non polar solutions not to mix. Interesting but of absolutely no use in answering the question, I suppose.
