If you are looking to broaden your understanding of the region and its people then this is an excellent read.

I have that book...it actually says a lot and explains some interesting facts - like the Western troops in the holy land.

I found it to be the most factual set of historical lectures I've read in sometime.

Plus the conclusion, in hind sight, was dead on.
