If you strongmen out there don't know this then tiss tiss.....He was basically the founder of the strongman competition. He could lift 283 lbs. at 3/4 arms lenght.....any thoughts?

Louis Cyr from Canada was the worlds strongest man at the time. not sure but i think it was Boston where he set the world record... died on Nov 10, 1912... at the age of 49

I totally thought that I had a good one there!

He travelled to europe to offer any man 1000$ ( a truckload at the time) for whoever could beat him in a strongman competition. All of the europeans turned down the opportunity because they knew that none of them stood a chance against the massive man.

He then went back to canada and then down to the states where he joined the circius for a year (making 150$ per week, contrary to the publicized 25 grand a week at the time) and then he decided to leave the circius and spend time with his fam in Quebec, Canada.

Due to deteriorating health he withdrew himself from competitions until one new up and commer (I totally forgot the name) at the age of 26 formally asked him to a strongman competition. This would be Louis last competition.

It took place in Montreal, Louis was obviously hurting due to his health. He was glutinous and it was very hard on his kidneys. Louis completed the competition winning an equal amount of events as his challenger.

Louis Kept the belt of the worlds strongest man as he did not lose the competition and went into retirement from strongman lifting. He spent the remaining ten years of his life with his family.


Thats all that I can remeber from him......Now we have Hugo Gerrard following in his footsteps...

no it was a really good one actually.... i only remembered his name and a little about him... i had to punch in his name and do a search to get his death date and such. i do remember his very last competition he weighed some ungodly amount... i thought i read he was pushing in the heavy 300's, close to 380 or some shit.... but hey, he won.

About how much the circius said he made. I am going ( AHHHHH SPIDER ON THE FLOOR! AHHH I HATE THEM!) to check it out and I'll get back to ya. However, I am positive it was 25 grand or 2.5 grand. Either or, they claimed he made quite a bit. But, I am positive his actual salary was 150$ a week.

I'll get back to ya on it in a bit.....I'm a lil hung right now.
