I just have to ask if any of you ladies are offended when you hear another female say "I don't want/like muscle...."

Constantly in the gym I hear women telling the trainers, "I don't want any muscle," or "I don't like muscles on women," or "I want to be soft and girlie..." (it always seems to happen while I am mid-lift or something lol)

First I have to turn my head to hide my laughter/disgust....but I can't help but feel somewhat insulted as well (oh well, at least I know I look better and will be decreasing bf% faster than any of those women).

But I even have a "friend" (that I work with) who wanted me to teach her how to work out. So I trained up @ her gym for 2 weeks showing her different exercises, etc. Well after ONLY ONE leg workout - she quit! She came into work the next day w/ "I'm never working out w/ you again, I told you that I DID NOT want any muscle, I only want to lose some weight, and now I can feel my leg muscle popping out!" (Keep in mind that she did very light weight despite the weight I was doing, and her main complaint was about the lunges that I made her do (w/o weights) b/c she thought they "made her leg musle pop out". OMG, I wanted to pull my hair out.

To this day, she still asks my advice - although she is NOT going to take it or even worse, will argue w/ me about it - WTF don't ask if you aren't going to listen. She constantly asks "so you WANT muscle?" Makes me want to knock her teeth out.....

Sorry I just had to vent. Does anyone else have this problem?

I used to hear it from the women I worked with at a previous job. Of course these are the same type of women that keep the Curves franchises in business. I would worry about offending someone with the Curves comment, but I am pretty darn sure that none of the MM family frequents Curves. Except maybe to laugh!!!!!!

What? You can't build huge muscles after one workout? I'm so disillusioned now.

I do tend to get annoyed at the "I don't want to get huge" comments. I understand the women making these remarks are just uneducated about the muscle building process, but internally I'm a little pissed they really believe muscle comes that easily. I train my ass off - lots of heavy, compound work - and follow a clean diet year round to look the way I do. If they spent two minutes watching me train, maybe they'd better understand how hard it really is.

With that said, lately I've actually been getting more and more women telling me how much they love my arms/shoulders/legs. So I actually think the tide is slowly turning and muscularity in women is become more acceptable - even desirable. Of course, then I see the Lara Croft commercial where they call skinny little Angelina Jolie "ripped" and I get pissed all over again.

women - muscles = skinny fat girls. You know the kind. They are 'skinny' but with loose skin so they aren't event tight or toned.

... and lara croft is extremely thin. My client saw her in L.A and wasn't too impressed.

BUT HOW DARE YOU SPEAK OF MY WOMAN LIKE THAT!!!!!!!! anyways... muscle in women is great to a certain extent, and then its just not desireable anymore for a lot of men. i mean its time to walk away when your girls lifts are topping 1500! it really depends on the frame and figure and all that, but i do understand what some women mean by that comment... meaning they dont want to look like a man... they just are disallusioned about what it takes to build that much muscle thats all.

generally a person's view of what they can or what to accomplish w/ their body is a function of 2 things - their education & their interest. We all know you don't just "get" a body like Monica Brant's. At the same time, its really easy to comment on a body type but not actually pursue it.

If they want to "lean out but not get all big like a guy", then tell them its all about the estrogen. If they ask why, then tell them. If they run screaming, screw em. If they actually want to understand, then let them in on the secret. Its up to them to make it their own accomplishment - not your problem.

Every female client or friend I have trained has said this shit. I have to make them understand the process.

What happens is the muscle gets inflamed for a few days after working out (you know, the nice tight pump a couple days after hittin the gym), and since a shirt or pants feel a bit tighter, they think that they've already gained muscle.

Girls have to work twice as hard to build mass then men, with training and diet. Its all about the Testosterone.
