This is what is wrong with kids today.

We had a speaker come to school Friday. His theory was that you shoudn't let bad kids disrupt your teaching time. If a student starts disrupting class, you should calmly respond with, "I understand and keep teaching." He believed it would rarely go to three times then if it did then you could send them to the office. He went as far as one of them telling you , you suck. You aresupposed to ignore them until after class.
We also had a little test that discribed what kind of teachercwe were, I was considered a Hostile teacher. I'm blunt, demanding, sometimes using sarcasim, and not leaving any room for disrespective behavior.Yes, I've told students to ,"shut up", I've even told a couple to get the hell out of my classroom.
Does anyone agree with the tactics this man believes. If he thinks this works( not acknowledging bad behavior) I believe he is wrong. They'll just act worst if you let them.

Kids today have no respect for authority. They know no matter what happens their parents will usually go to bat for them....

There is also a huge difference in the story the parents get at home and what really happened. I see kids walking around today and I can't believe some of the stuff I see. I think a firm but fair hand is what a lot of kids need. They get no disipline at home, so they think they can do what they want. An example of what I heard at the store the other day

Child: Mom, can I have this candy bar ?
Mom: No sweetie
Child: Why not ?
Mom: Not before dinner time I don't want you to spoil your appetite.
Child: What if I eat it after dinner ?
Mom: Well then it will be late and that's too much sugar before bed......

this goes on for 2 minutes before the mom finally buys the candy bar for the kid. Now lets look at that same conversation 15 years ago, when I was a kid

Me: Mom, can I have this candy bar ?
Mom: No
Me: Why not ?
Mom: Because I said so

That was the end of the conversation and I got no candy bar.

Anyone seen "original kings of comedy".............bernie mac addresses this issue to some extent...........luved it. He was like......."I'll fuck a kid up!"

One thing i think about this theory you posted is it could work in many cases, alot of kids who act out like this are doing it for attention......good or bad, and by ignoring it your not giving them the attention they seek and eventually they'll stop reaching into an empty well........might not work for all kids but i could see this being a strategic approach for many.
