Oh, you should've seen me when our washer went out last spring. Holy fuck was I pissed. I had it completely torn apart and there was no fixing it. I tried for 2 weeks. Luckily we found another one for $35.

I'm in the process of working on my neighbor's 92 Taurus. Started working on the car on Saturday. Got the resonator pipe unbolted from the cat, ran over to NAPA, they gave me a parts total, then went back to my neighbor to tell him what it was going to cost.

So the next day I figure I'll heat the shit out of the pipe where the resonator slides into the exhaust pipe. No go, doesn't matter how hot I get it, it's not coming loose. Ok, fine, I'll get the pipe cutters. Once I get it cut, I'll just torch it with vice grips ready to clamp on. Should be able to pull it out.

Broke my pipe cutters. Wasn't even abusing them, they just snapped.

Unhung the entire exhaust so I can get it out from under the car partially to work on. $23 today and I had new pipe cutters, but it was too hot to work outside in the sun (in the 90s) so I figure I'll get to it in a few days. They're not hurting for the car, they havn't driven it for months because the exhaust has been hanging and they have 6 other cars for 5 drivers.

I hate the car already. As soon as I get it fixed they're selling it.

My next automotive project - CV boot on the gf's Civic. Been ripped for 2 months now but havn't had the money to get it fixed. It HAS to get done before winter though. Road salt will kill the CV joint quick.

I left out the part about putting a gash in my thumb while opening a can of wheel bearing grease. Dumb.

I hope that you can get by with the CV boot and don't have to go ahead with a half shaft replacement. Dryers, cars, stuff: They all wear out and break. Whopeeeee.

Yeah, it sucks ass.

Buddy of mine told me to get a price on the CV boot, then get a price on the axle itself with a new CV boot already on. His honest suggestion as a mechanic was that if the price difference isn't too big, replace the whole axle. He's got a good point, because the axle is going to come out anyway to make replacing the CV boot easier, and if I have a new axle to throw in, it's less work I have to do.

Prices on parts are generally really cheap around here, so I might not have a huge difference in price. We'll see, but first I need the money.

If it's got tits or tires, it's going to cost you money and give you problems eventually. That's the sad truth.

i used to be an auto mekanik..honda cv's are a piece of cake..i can do both in about a half hour..of course it helps having a lift and all that jazz....but on a side note just run down to sears and buy the f'in belt..its easy to do broham

I've done a dryer belt before, but the last one was a LOT easier. On the last dryer, as soon as I removed the back panel I had access to everything. I pulled the back panel off of this one and it's not going to be as friendly. Cheap repair, but I can tell this one is going to be time consuming. At least I know how I'm spending my afternoon.

I don't have a lift, so the CV boot will be a little bit more of a ***** to do. The lack of lift is also slowing me down on the Taurus exhaust repair, as there's not much room to get under and work. I have it up on a pair of ramps. Had to buy them to do oil changes on both of our Civics because they're so f'ing low to the ground I needed them.
