I hear a lot of people with a lot of strong opinions but if you ask them to explain why they hold that opinion they give responses like "everone knows that...." or "I can't explain but I know it's right." I can appreciate an opinion I don't agree with if someone can present a strong, factual case for why they have reached that opinion but most people can't IMO.

This applies to religion, government or anything else. I have tried interacting with people again recently thinking I was being too harsh but it only made me realize people are dumber than I thought. One rule I've learned to live by is:

If most people believe it's true then it probably isn't.

My stand on religion, since you say you listen. I think that if someone really believes in something that just the thought of it can make them happy, that is great. Now this does not mean I want to hear about it, I have my own beliefs. I wish I knew something, I mean really knew something was so great that just believing in it made my life better. I envy these people. I am not talking about the people we all know that go to church or put money in the collection bowl, I mean the people that keep their faith no matter what. I have never met one of these people. I dont know that they exist. I think of it, like how you used to feel about Santa Clause, he is just so great and we look forward to the stories and one day seeing him. Then the belief gets jaded because of abuse of his name and your dream gets destroyed. The only thing I truly know to be truth so much that it always brings a smile to my face, is my kids love for me. I dont have physical proof that it is there, but I have faith that it really is. nothing else matters in the end. not what you, my coworkers, my wife, and sometimes myself, think about me . Just them.

and just so you know I do not argue points that I do not have a decent arguement for. I do, however lose my taste for a "discussion" if people say stuff that they would not say normally.
let me give you an example, please keep in mind all I know are the facts presented to me by the person talking to me in the statement I am about to relay.
Talking about Kerry, and his purple heart
him" All I know is that they keep goin on about Kerry and his purple heart, he didnt deserve the third one, he caught shrapnel from his own grenade.
O.k. first of all if it is your third purple heart you are a hero in my book.
second. Where is your purple heart you fucking shitfuck.
third. I am assuming that Kerry threw that grenade while in battle (I dont know this) and if he did and he caught shrapnel from it, then he deserves an award. I complain when someone confronts me on the street and threatens me, much less if someone is trying to kill me and I am supposed to kill them back. now if this guy was not a republican he would say that Kerry was a hero

The people who object to the validity of Kerry's Purple Hearts most likely voted for a guy who appeared to have used his father's influence to avoid combat only to send thousands of Americans to their deaths based on lies (yes, lies) once he was elected President.

I got into this with my lady friend the other night. She is an otherwise smart girl but actually admitted she would vote for Bush again knowing he lied to go to war simply because Kerry was a "flip flopper." She, like many Americans, apparently does not have a problem with liars as long as they actually seem to believe their own lies and appear stupid like "regular folk" when addressing the nation as well as the world.

Her eye is healing nicely and the swelling and bruising should be completely gone in another few weeks, BTW.
