How can I - a father of four kiddos- fall in the same trap time after time? If I can behave normally w adults then why on schaisse do I have to lose my temper on my own kids? Can´t I handle the situation when they dare to snap back on something or don´t obey that very instant? Felt a little shitty today when ´the mail brought a couple papers which told " pay this , pay that..." I hate bills! Then my oldest daughter got itchy w her homework. I tried . I really tried to help her in decent manner . She just snapped back. After a few times something just snapped in my stupid head and I ( once again ) started shouting at her and lost my temper. I could see my little girl was afraid about my shouting.
My own kids and i can´t hold my temper! Right now I´m depressed beyond belief. Didn´t handle the situation well. Just a quick hug for her as I hurried to work..... Gonna apologize her this morning and hug her tight. My girl . What an ass his father is!

I'm the patient one here and rarely raise my voice. My husband sounds a lot like you though. He's learning what sets him off (like paying the bills) and is working at communicating more with our child.

I understand him well (as your wife probably understands you) but kids just don't get it so you really have to be patient with them. You can explain to your kids that you're sorry for being short tempered and also explain that it wasn't their fault. Nothing wrong with being humble to your kids now and then. It teaches them that everyone is human and makes mistakes but owning up to your mistakes shows you care about the other person as well.

Good luck, this parent stuff isn't always easy. Just do the best you can.

Hey buddy, with the sresses of life these days unfortunately everyone can be quick to fly off the handle...doesnt mean we should or that it is an excuse, but it WILL happen. Just work on it, I think that there is a lot that goes into WHY it happens and if you can figure out the WHY then you can make adjustments to keep it from happening by even just simply doing the bills after the kids go to bed, or somewhere you wont be bothered.

Other than that man, I think you are a REALLY good dad just because you are so torn up by it and are big enough to be humble with your kid and apologize, that is HUGE and they will probably remember that about you more 15 years from now than the fact that you got mad in the first place.

We all lose it from time to time, but the good thing is that you didn't start beating on them. Snapping at them with words is one thing, but physically hurting them is a totally differen't thing altogether. Talk to your baby just as you would a person much older than her. She'll probably appreciate you not talking to her as you would talk to a little child. There is nothing wrong with being a disciplinarian but sometimes they should know that "dad" doesn't have the best of times either. When you mentioned that the kids snapped back at you, that is wrong on their part too. They should never "sass" or talk back disrespectfully to their parents....ever. I wasn't there to see how you handled the situation, but no child should ever run roughshod over their own parents.
