Just in case you think it's ok for the government to track your calls

I keep hearing a lot of folks talk about how they are not concerned with the government tracking personal calls. Afterall, it's to protect us from terrorists, right?

I wonder how the 6 or 7 people (according to recent polls) who still support this administration are going to defend this one.

I'm just concerned that every administration since Jefferson pisses on the Constitution and continues seeking to expand judicial, executive, and legislative powers. The states and any contracts private or within an individual state no longer holds any validity when lawmakers like McCain can stand up and tell the baseball commission that he will force legislation through congress if they don't control steroids any better within the Major League. When they expand power beyond what the constitution allows them to have (including wiretaps or self-written warrants) I see that the constitution is nothing more than laws written on a bar-room napkin that the politictians dismiss as being no longer valid and a toothless lion.

I see everyone is concerned about there phone bill being turned over. Very understandable.

Basically, it boils down to statisitics and (since I work in the intelligence community) I can state this: if and when a known or suspected terrorist is caught, every single US call they made in the past 10 years will be brought to light.

This, is how the intell is suppose to be use. Granted, no one really knows. All we have are clever conspiracy theories and the word of the big bad government. That's life.

Now, if no one here actually shreds their mail, they have no leg to stand on. Once you throw your trach away and it ends up in a dump somewhere, it becomes public property or at the very least - the property of the person who owns the land. So, trash your phone bill and your bank statements like you normally do and then look in the mirror.

If you truly think the government is tracking your particular phone calls, you're thinking highly of yourself. If you're a mobster, major drug player, terrorist, or big-time criminal, you should be terrified of subjects like the Patriot Act.

The database they are collecting is incredible HUGE. Your phone call history doesn't belong to you; it belongs to the phone company. If you want to *****, call your provider - they don't have to release it. It's like hotmail releasing your email addy to spammers; obviously, just not quite as serious.

I do not mind if my emails, online behavoir or phone calls are placed in some major databse. Guess what, that's been happening once you signed on for the very first time. I have nothing to hide and nothing that scared is these areas. If this collelction of data actually stops just one terrorist - it's worth it to me. Now, this is my opinion now and only my opinion.

There is nothing that isn't accessable by the government - since most of these "private" issues are given to us by our government. The most important information that we poccess is issued and tracked by the government; your social security.

Lastly, everyone wants to complain about this administration. It happens and it happens to EVERY administration. It only gets worse each time because our problematic issues become more paramount. That's called progression. Plus, there was a reason our fore fathers created the Constitution to be a living document. They knew back then that they didn't have all the answers. It must change to suit the needs of our time. For those of you who say, "**** that!" I can only assume you're still proslavery.

Bro, I'm a conservative card carrying member of the RNC, but my gripe is expansion of federal power over the constitution. Federalism didn't start with Bush, but started with G. Washington. Last I had seen, the US Constitution was the supreme law of the land and not a bookcase full of several dozen volumes of CFR books. So many CFR's encroach upon the states' sovereignties.

As far as intel gathering goes, the manpower isn't there to monitor every single phone call so they set up flag words. I feel that we've been a country divided though since the 60's. I have my own theories on why the country is divided, but most would call me a KooK if I pointed fingers at higher education centers.

Actually, to my understanding, the only information gathered is actual phone numbers linked to the original call. Everyone's actual phone conversations are not being monitored; the man power is not there.

I feel our country is divided because we have the right to be divided. Granted, there are so many factors that play part, but - give us an inch....
