Name our Gym...

well, me and a couple of others are gonna build a gym. We've been talking about it for a couple of yrs and even have spoken with Powerhouse Gym about naming rights, but will not go that route. This gym will be "hometown". We figure it's go time and will be looking for locations and talking with realtors that i deal with on a daily basis. I'd like to ask this forum for some help on naming this gym...and of course, if ever y'all are in my town drop in and use your life time membership. Alrighty, let's hear them...

If I opened a Gym I would call it Powerhouse Physcial Fitness

Depends on the target group for the gym. Do you want it to be all inclusive or more of a grunt type of gym?

All inclusive gym could be something like "Absolute Fitness."

Grunt type of gym could be something like "Balls to the Wall Gym."

Let me know if you need signage or tshirt design. I've done that for a chain of gyms.

good question and we have tried to address this. If it came down to choosing one target it'll be the "grunt", hardcore type gym since my town doesn't have anything close to that. However, I am leaning towards building a big enough building to target both groups with the hardcore being sectioned off to their own area.

Depending on your city's population, you should probably go for an all inclusive population. In all honesty, if you are not building a gym in Hell's Kitchen or Venice Beach, then it may be best to have an all inclusive gym assuming that you can get the right staff off the bat to do spinning, cardio, and resistance training sessions. I hate to sound like a party pooper, but know exactly what you want that gym to be because it will dictate all of your advertising and signage. If you have partners, then all of you really need to sit down and determine the target group and determine the demographics to know if you can adequately draw enough business from your target group(s). Before you even open the gym you will need to have some good insurance coverage because gyms are injury prone. Also, in your contract for gym membership, you will need a lawyer to help you with that type of a form to indemnify you from certain obligations that can keep you from being sued for workout related injuries.

Selecting workout equipment is alot of fun, but the business end sucks big time. Insurance(s) and legalities can be a real hoot. For anyone that you hire, you have to keep in mind that payroll is a killer but so is the workmen's comp insurance that is a must have policy. Whether you own a gym or an environmental consulting business, insurance can eat you alive. Every single time that I need to have to access a work project I will need a copy of a liability insurance policy. Each new contract may require multiple copies of insurance policies....all of which costs.

I don't want to dissuade you from this endeavor, but make sure you know what you are getting into and you have the capital to back it up to the very end. Even the best restaurants entrepeneurs invest a large forune to make a small fortune.
