I just got back from playing around with my buddy's PSP.

The web browser is ok considering that the PSP was never really meant for web surfing. If you want to actually type a message you will spend all day doing it. I really liked playing the games and even watch a few minutes of Underworld on that ***** and it seems the screen is big enough to actually enjoy the movie (unlike the IPOD).

I'll probably pick one up soon because I'm about to start riding the bus to work and I need something to watch/listen to on the way.

Waste of money.
The UMD format it uses for movies is going the way of the dinosaur. The games are craptastic.. maybe 2 good ones.
Get a laptop or portable DVD player instead. The DVD players are cheap enough at walmart and have a nice sized screen. (Some places like Direct TV even give them away with TIVO for free if you sign up)
All a much better deal than the PSP.
A laptop is the best deal though since it will do it all with a nice sized screen.
PSP $249 bullshit games and movie format no longer supported.
Laptop $500 and does it all ....priceless.

I bought one for my son and he doesn't even use it anymore. There is little support for UMD now too.

Dude, I'd get a PDA. The Dell Axim PDA's are pretty nice. The HP's are real nice. Some of them have built in camera's cell-phones, you can browse the web (without paying your cell provider) you can watch movies, play mp3's, they have bluetooth, you can use them as handheld GPS navigation with turn-by-turn directions, etc,etc.......

I was recently thinking of a PSP for the same reasons you posted....but, the software for it kinda sux, and typing kinda sux.

I had a HP 6315 a couple years ago, and I loved it(till it got stolen). I just bought a new dell axim from flea-bay a couple days ago.

But I will say this...there is plenty of programs out there and hacks for the psp. you can convert just about any movie(dvd,mpeg,divx,avi,etc) to psp format, put the movies right onto the memory stick, and watch them(if you have the right hack).

It looks like the internet access is a few bucks more? Do you ever get online with it? Also, I'm seeing a lot of reviews saying the DVR recorder kicks ass. Have you tried that? What do you primarily use yours for....audio, video pics, web?

The one I have isn't wi-fi, but I'ma probably upgrade soon. It is the goods. I don't have a DVR station yet, it's on the way.

I use mine for watching videos and listening to music. I should have waited and got the wi-fi one the first time.

Cool. I suspect 90% of the usage will be for music and video. I do want to have a capable web browser (for a hand held device) and that DVR recorder just seems like the icing on the cake.
