The Apartment complex I'm working for has been on the market for 6 mos. An interested party has put money down to take us off the market till sep 28th. Property management companies are run by east coast accountant types. They wouldn't waste their bone, unless they intend to buy us. You know damn well these accountant types are going to use every last minute to negotiate, so I will be released on the 28th with a bonus. The new company has promissed to keep all employees/benefits. HOWEVER. As soon as we were taken off the market, my imediate supervisor has painted a target on my back.
Reason: The regional property manager, and the regional maintenance manager, Were goulaged to this property, after the home office sold of the rest of the portfolio south of the mason/dixon line. They are now my superiors.(hired me actualy) The maintenance manager is the regionals golden boy. He has his golden boy, who shows up drunk every day. No body in maintenance can read/write for shit, so naturaly-I'm a threat. Pointing out any mistake the drunk guy makes is grounds for imediate retaliation from the sup/ex regional maintenance guy. I'm the air conditioning guy, and my position has gone thru ,oh-5 people in the last 2 years. And iv'e been here a year.
If we do get bought, the property manager(ex-regional) is going to retire. Leaving the maintenance manager, and the drunk, with no top cover. So they either want to pad my personell file for the new company. Or get rid of me outright.
If I quit first, I lose the bonus. But I'm gaurunteed not having a fire on my record. I'm about to buy a trailer. I may have to survive on my side business.

John-take the fire. It's worth the risk. If you have side business then you can use the meger little unemployment you get from the termination. If you have no previous write up or disciplinary actions, then it does not matter the reason of termination to your next employer. If they don't fire you soon enough, you will get the bonus you are worried about. Just get your feelers out now to see if there might be something out there in case you are fired. Don't quit! No benefits there and they get the satisfaction of knowing you were worried about what they might have done. Hang in there it's worth it.
