Anyone else feel the earthquake this morning?

I didn't. I was asleep, but normally I would have heard it because I've been awakened before by tremors from nearby quakes. I think Louisville had some minor damage. Since this one didn't wake me up, I imagine that I must have more powerfully moving farts. I do too...pull my finger.

The New Madrid Fault located in Missouri was the source of one of the largest earthquakes in US History - in 1812, with a magnitude of 8.0. Then again, in 1895, there was another quake that measured 6.8, mapped below and compared to the 6.7 quake in San Francisco in 1994.

How significant was the 8.0 quake? The ground sank, lakes were formed and the Mississippi river changed its course permanently, and ran backwards for a short time. How far away was it felt? Church bells rang in Boston and the sidewalks were cracked in Washington, D.C.

The 1812 quake was preceded by 2 smaller quakes. The significance of this of course, is that today, April 18th, 2008, there was a 5.2 magnitude quake followed by a 4.6 six hours later. This is something to keep your eye on, because if another 8.0 hits the New Madrid fault now, it will be a lot worse than Katrina was for Louisiana, due to the number of buildings and homes that are in that region. Tecumseh, the Shawnee, went out to the Apache Nation and all of the west to recruit the help of as many indian nations as possible, to bring them to Ohio, and get their help to expel the white men back to the east side of the appalachians. He told them that he would signal them by stomping his feet as hard as he could and cause the earth to rumble violently. He said it would be so many days after an eclipse and he told them the night when he would signal. Tecumseh pinpointed it too the very night the quake would happen. Tecumseh's brother decided to be a hero and attack long before the other indian nations showed up and blew Tecumseh's plans.
