Materials needed:
1 Newer unused car batery(will last months)
2 pieces of chor-boy (copper wool)
1 piece of pvc, or abs tubing 1-1/4 or 1-1/2" long enough to go from inside shelter to outside air.
14 gage stranded insulated wire.
After youve filled the first floor of your home with 12"of soil, (equivelent to 4" of concrete or 1" of lead), locate a basement window, or dig/ drill. Open the window wide enough to fit the abs pipe at least 12 " above ground level. If you are worried about flooding, be creative. Camouflage tube. set batery on a wooden platform or plank under window. Strip two cut pieces of wire of sufficient length 7" from both ends. Wrap one end of wire around negative batery terminal with tape to secure over wraping. twist then slide other stripped end of wire thru 1 rst piece of copper wool, and loop back twist to secure(be creative). Push anode assembly(copper wool) with a broom handle, 3' up tube, with insulated wire trailing out. Repeat on positive side (cathode?) pushing assembly up 2', taking special care that filter assemblies dont touch. You may wish to install a circuit breaker in the circuit. now close off open section of window, and fill window well, or mound 12" of dirt. As fresh air migrates into the tube the negative charged filter will trap alpha particles(pairs of protons). And the positive will catch beta radiation (free electrons, and negatively ionised particles. Even under heavy radiological loads , this system will last for months. You can also pull wires off of batery, push out the old filters, and replace with fresh ones!

Shure- If you want to breath radioactive air. That is a Ventilation System, not a filter. Mine is an ionising filter for a single family basement. No pump is necessary with two of my filters. Excess CO2 will migrate out via boyles law.
