    Default Firearms....whats best nowadays?

Ok, so I should have my fucking licence shortly and I have to say it HURTS paying money for a piece of paper that says I can own a firearm, but thats another rant for another day.....
I have been out of the scene forever and things seem to have changed somewhat. I found out theres actually a .17 rimfire now? WTF is with that, lol. I will be getting a centrefire, shotty and .22 rimfire, amoungst other things. For the centrefire, I wanted either a Sako or Tikka (same thing really) chambered for 220 swift as its the flattest trajectory of any .22 hotshot available.....but apparently those two dont have models in that cal any more. Its either 223 (piece of shit IMO) or upto 22-250 (nice round but not as good as the swift).
Shotgun I was wanting a Beretta side by side double trigger 12G. I grew up with side by sides and just dont like the feel of under/overs. And I also want double trigger, for the same reason. If not Beretta, then I would go for Browning, or heaven forbid, if the price is right and can find one to suit, an old old Purdy which I might have to mortgage my arse for, lol!
.22 I'm thinking Brno bolt action.
So are these makes, Sako/Tikka, Beretta, Browning and Brno still at the top of the heap, so to speak, or are there any "new" manufacturers to compare? Steyr? Boito is a piece of shit IMO. Lanber I like from past exp. Winchester I wouldnt own if it was given to me. Ruger make some nice rugged reliable gear but they just dont have the "feel" of a sako or Beretta etc etc.
So suggestions? If I cant get a 220 swift, then I might go upto maybe a 243 or 270 or even another damn 22-250. Mostly its for Roos foxs, pigs. I know the 243 and 270 are overkill, but I'm hunting for meat and want MOA or better at 200mts, one shot one kill......
Some other stuff I might have around is good, but I want some new toys

And I like the Weatherby also, heard good things about em, but never owned one. Anyone have or had one and if so what did you think?

I'm young and flashy... I just swing the .50 Desert Eagle around. And... I'm a felon, so, technically, it's my 5'3 145lb wifes gun.

.17 rimmy is what i just got, i havent taken it out yet since my scope hasnt arrived yet.
out of a 2223 and a 22-250 the 22-250 will dominate in shooting the flattest accurate round. I've been shooting rabbits with a 22-250, it is overkill but you can salvage most of the rabbit aslong as they are all head shots. There better for long shooting at fox's ,goats, dingo's etc but i wouldnt use it as a gun to shoot anything smaller nor anything, like queensland and darwin game..
berettas make damn nice shottys especially for trap and down the line but if your only using it to bush bash with anything will do for you. i personally like over and unders better, judging accuracy in moving targets with O/U is much better. People at the range have 7k shottys and i use an old asss single barrel for shits and giggles and hit as many clays as them
as for .22, brno will be your cheapest bet, any .22 is good enough imo.my mate just bought an anschutz.despite that the groupings on them are incredible for a rimfire he paid round 2k for his.If its just a target/bunny gun an LR will be more than fine but if your hoping to drop down a fox if you come across one when your out the hmr/wmr would be the choice.Head shots and heart shots would be the only likely way to drop one ofcourse.

Yeah, I completely forgot the Anschutz, great piece of engineering and the groupings are spot on! I like the Brno also cause they seem to make damn accurate rimmys. Remington make some nice gear, but I'm kinda leaning towards the Sako/Tikka so far. .22 would be for rabbits only. I dont shoot foxs any more cause I love dogs, lol
Shotty will be for rabbits, ducks, trap. Can get, lol, U/O 12G Merkel, family heirloom if you know what I mean, worth a fucking mint, shoots beautifully, well balanced and just a damn nice thing, but I just prefer a side by side double trigger. An old "hammer" 12G worth maybe $200 is my pref at this stage. A nice 20 G "heirloom" will be used for quail. Beretta make nice shottys, real nice so might see if I can get a new double trigger side by side, otherwise I'll get a secondhand one in A1 condition. Have actually been considering a 10G maybe? You ever used one? Theyre a bit of fun.
The centrefire is going to take some thought though..... mostly will be for headshooting Roos cause the price of meat here is fucking disgusting! Never shot pigs, goats or deer, but theyre all gonna be on the agenda, thus I'm thinking maybe something bigger like a 270 or maybe even a 308 or a 30/06? Head shots wouldnt damage the roo/goat meat overly much methinks, though the 06 kinda makes an instant bolognese.
You want a scope for the rimmy? I have a couple here I can send over. I think theyre 4X40's, would have to have a look see. They dont owe me a damn thing either. One was on a .22 Mag the other a .22......

I would have offered you the scopes before but I thought you were getting a .17 centrefire, so would need a bigger scope.....

if you plan to shoot roos, goats pigs, deer than a 30-06 will be your maximum calibre.
the 308 is the best pig gun youull get man, not to mention its a damn accurate round( thats what id be grabbin).
remmys make good pieces of work that are in a good price range.

dont know how you'll go getting a brand new side by side, dont see many these days but no doubt you'll get one second hand for 200.

havent heard much about tikka, sako's japenese yeh? ive heard some good things about them, never held or shot one tho. but with most .22s, as much as you pay there all gonna perform around the same level. id be looking at something with open sights id love to get a 22 with a nice weight, very comfy and just go out and blast away. thats skill!!
the henry winny would be good for that, leaver action got round 6 or 8 tube mag
with ope sights. be good fun
gotta scope on the way actually, i gotta awsome website where you wont find scopes any cheaper. i just got a cheap bushnell banner illum scope 4-16x40 atm which sells for about 3 but got it from the site for 130.. cant complain with that put the bipod on it yesterday.
yeah the rimmys seem to be taking off in the .17, you'll have a bit of trouble actually getting a new centre .17 these days. i think it may be because of the waiting period or price of ammo maby.

Tikka and Sako are made in Finland, check their website's they have always made the most precise and accurate rifles, IMO, but I'm interested if anyone has used the steyr or Weatherby as they make great gear, though not sure if steyr make sporting rifles, I'll have to check. Aust army use steyr. I used to have a vid somewhere, was first hand on the range, from a mate of m,ine in the Army, when the Aus army was going from the SLR to a new weapon. They were testing the Ak, M16 (piece of junk, specially the old ones without the bolt assist) and steyr. The tests they put em thru were incredible, like freezing them to below zero and tesint for reliability and function, burying them in sand (barrel capped), taking em out and testing etc etc, and the Steyr out performed em all.
The side by side worth 200 could hypothetically be a heirloom, lol. I'm up for a nice Beretta, maybe a couple G's.....dunno. I'm certainly no Bill gates, but I dont mind paying for top quality tools, which is what we're talking here. In the end we (hopefully) get what we pay for. Will look at the trajectory of the 308, see how flat it shoots, but the heavier the projectile, the greater the curve, its a bit of a trade off I guess.... yeah the open sight .22 is what I learnt on, a fucking antique my grandfather bought when he was a kid and you know it's still accurate enough to drop a rabbit at 50-60 mts, open sights.....

I thin the steyr would be an accurate reliable weapon, but I'm put off by the synth stock.....I'm kinda old school in that I like Walnut and a blue'd finish....lol
