Default Protein Absorption, is there really a max??

I haven't been able to find ANY scientific journals stating a max protein absorption.... So saying 30-40 grams is the most you can absorb in one sitting can't be proven IMO, unless there is some evidence of this..

Of course, we're not "normal" people, and after times of exercise i'd like to assume we can soak up more protein than the average couch potato...

anyone ever see evidence on max protein absorption???

i try to get atleast 40 with regular meals and 50 with shakes. but i would like to see some scientific evidence of how much you can absorb at one sitting.

Its is funny that you should say this, I was thinking the exact same thing today. I am hoping someone will come out with some new research on protein. I can't give any examples, but I know the bulk of the research shows no difference in lean mass, and performance increases, from high protein consumption. Of course, some prove otherwise, but not significant differences.

But I have NEVER read or learned of the maximum amounmt of protein metabolized, with frequency. I guess maybe the masses have given up on this subject

I have always heard 30g at a time was a rough max amount, but varied depending on size and metabolism. Of course, with GH it would definitely increase.
Now this is just old school thinking. I will do some searching to see if I can turn up anything with some kind of scientific backing.
I do know that too much is hard on the kidneys. The question is how much is required for it to be force filtered in the glomerulus and what is necessary to be able to digest that amount......

Default Reason there isn't a study

and the reason that most other studies we find can't exactly be used to extrapolate data and apply it to ourselves and our uses is simply in the multitude of variables.

We'd need to find this for example for me to know how much protein I can digest and use for lean muscle building:

My GH, IGF-1, testosterone, response to an exact weight resistance program, etc... as you see, the list would go on and on.

Protein is the building block for muscle, but all the switches got to be turned on for that to happen... insulin, GH, etc...

Default There have been studies

at an academic level but on the average person. I don't have the data, but have heard some college professors years ago discuss it. They have said that 30 grams of protein per meal is the max before it begins to harm the liver and develop kidney stones. Like with most any food that you consume, the higher your activity level, the more you will require as well as the more your body will absorb it and use it where necessary. If you are a couch potato, more than 30 grams of protein per meal may be of no benefit to you, but if you are a hardcore weight lifter, then 50 to 60 grams per meal may be fully absorbed and utilized. I have seen these stupid books called eat right for your blood type and just shake my head. I have seen people at the bookstores picking these books up and strike up a conversation with them and explain to them that if they have a healthy body (no diabetes, etc.) then it would only make sense to place in your body what your body requires based on your metabolism and activity level. I am probably one of the worst enemies that the Eat Right For Your Bloodtype authors have when I'm in the bookstores I guess.
