Default ARE THESE EXERCISES OK???/

Yesterday I almost dropped the bench press barbell on my chest. Im doing the 5X5 training and yeah had to raise the wait and i almost killed my self on the last rep.
My question is that I feel the chest press machine so much fucken better then bench press. Its not a matter of form, i have really good form i've been told by dudes i repect. its just chest press really hiots the spot. is it okay if i change my 5 sets of 5 to this. (plus its safer for me)
Also Im using seated dumb press for shoulders these babies sure do hit the spot..... The thing is that in a coupole of weeks Im gonna be in a position where I could do the 5 sets if I could getthe fucken weight up to my shoulders. I was worried about this so today I just tryed getting the weight up and I could get it up but had nothing at all left to get it past my neck.
So Im thinking of changing this to military press which I should have done all along.
I know i'm not suppose tyo change the exercises but I dont really have a choice.
So are these exercises okay?

Default In giving the following advice, I'm assuming you're looking for maximum strength a

as opposed to just toning, etc. Otherwise you probably wouldn't be using techniques like 5X5s. That said, for maximum muscle development and strength gains, nothing beats the big free weight compound exercises. Yeah, they're harder, but that's the point. The harder the body works, the more it grows. Using the heavy basics gives you the biggest bang for the buck. The big exercises recruit a number of muscles allowing for heavier poundages to be used which builds greater strength and muscle mass in all muscles worked. Thus, I wouldn't recommend that any such exercise be replaced by a machine. I would recommend you either get a spotter to help for when those reps get crazy hard and/or switch to dumb bells.

Now, with the shoulder presses, you can switch to the bar if you like. However, if you learn how to kick the bells up that would resolve that prob. If you just can't get the motion, ask someone to hand you a bell. Use 2 hands to put one up and have the other handed to you. However, there's no prob using the bar. I switch back and forth from week to week. Bar one week, DBs the next, etc.

Look, don't be too proud to ask for a spot. Always have spotters standing by for your heaviest sets. That alone should keep you from killing yourself.

BigKraut. If ya havin some probs with the bench press I would do some 5X5's with some dumbells juss till ya built up some stablizer muscles and some stregnth to get where you can use some heavy weight. Then you can push the 5X5 sets ya need to help ya get what you're desiring. But like tha man said ya ain't to proud to beg for a spotter; it's betta than having a crushed rib cage or tearing some muscles causing some serious damage tryin to get it up when ya can't....

If you have ever ha an injury from lifting, you'll learn real quick to make sure you have a good spotter, trust me.. Don't be afraid to ask anyone, even the big owly lookin mofo everyone is scared of, you never know it could be some one from here..lol.. I agree with BK 100% if you want max size and strength you need the free weights, and a spotter... switch between dumbells and barbell... there a a whole list of small stabalizer muscles that the machine wont touch.. so.. spotter... free weight...
BTW.. I hate the 5x5's there are a lot better programs out there depending what your after (mass/max strength/shape)

Default I had good results

with the 5x5, but that was only for bench press. Increased my bench max from 295-350 while cutting down to a bodyweight of 188lbs. Of course now I can't even flat BB bench cause of my shoulder. I can do everything else though Confused
