Default A question for Mr X

I got somewhat of a unique situiation that you might be able to help me with. I'll try to keep it short, so here goes. I started using a painkiller called Oxycotin about 7 months ago. I got very addicted to it, was taking about 400mgs a day. About 6 weeks ago I was able to detox myself and have been clean every since. Several years ago, I used to workout regulary, even did a few cycles, but after my divorce, I started drinking alot, and quit working out, and ballooned up to 270#, (I was 5'8" and 189#). When I got hooked on the Oxys, I almost never ate. I would go days without eating, and when I did eat, it wasnt very much. During this time I lost 40#'s, Now here is my problem. I'm back to working out, and I'm on the Atkins diet. I'd like to lose about 30#'s then go on your CKD diet. But I think I screwed up my matabolism. I can only seem to lose weight when I cut my calories to around 1700 a day. I weigh 235#'s. Being on this type of diet, (been on it now for 3 weeks) I'm not ever hungry, but dont you think I need to raise my metabolism some? I workout with weights 3 times a week, and do 30 mins of moderate carido 5 days a week in the morning on empty stomach. The first 2 weeks, I kept my calories at about 2300, and never lost any weight, then when I dropped my calories 3 days ago, I've already lost 3 Lbs. I've seen you've helped a lot of folks on the boards, and I was hoping you could give me some advice. How could I raise my metabolism up a little, or should I even change anything right now? I read in one of your other post that being in ketosis is muscle sparing, (I check myself everyday with ketostix), so should I even worry about it? Or will my metabolism just keep plumiting from this low amount of calories?? Thanks for any help. Bubba

First, I want to congratulate you on your achievement in dropping a bad habbit and a potentially deadly one.

As far as the diet, the low caloric intake will not do for long; as you mentioned, you are pretty aware that your metabolic rate has problems. I would suggest going to the doctor and getting your blood work - especially a thyroid check. Find your your thyroid levels, and I'm assuming you will need to start using some T3, the doctor would know the right amount.

With such a starvation history, I would not recommend atkins or CKD because both are basically starvation diets to the body. I would suggest you have a balanced diet for at least 8-12 weeks before you really get into bodyfat shedding. By balanced, I refer to 40%protein/30%carbs/30%fat.

Proteins: lean beef, fish, chicken, eggs, tuna, turkey etc...
Carbs: yams, beans, brown rice, sweet potatos, pasta
Fats: olive oil, almonds, peanut butter all natural, flaxseed oil, udo's choice, peanuts, sesamese seed oil, sunflower seed oil
supplementary: veggies w/ every meal (green leafy fiberous)
Supplements: multi vitamins/minerals everyday, Vit C 1000mg ED...

Keep me updated on your dieting status, I would like to see a copy of your blood work and see what your doctor has recommended as far as your thyroid goes.

MrX, I got another question if you got a min. Its gonna be a while before I can get those blood test, (My insurence is screwed up). I was wondering if this would work.
I was putting togeather a cycle for when I lose the fat, its been about 6 years since the last time I done any gear. How about if I come off this low cal diet and go straight to a bulking cycle including test, D-bol and deca, and 4000 to 5000 cals a day, for about 14 weeks. Wouldnt the extra muscle and the increased food intake raise my metabolism quite a bit? Then I could go on the CKD diet, and use a little test to spare any muscle loss. How does this sound?

Like I said before, I don't recommend you do any juice. Stick to a balanced diet for at least 8 weeks, then you can move forward. Don't rush.
