This is frustrating!!!

i have completely devoted myself to strict dieting, intense training and countless hours of research on nutrition, dieting , this, that. i have sacrificed so much to complete my goal of having the body im happy with. sacrificed time, patience, dollars,, shit, ive totally changed my life..and i enjoy it. and this is what frustrates me. i have a girl friend thats daily diet consists of
meal 1- soda, pop tart
meal 2-salad, chocolate, coke
meal 3-french fries,
snack -ice cream (eats it straight out of the jug)
meal 4-soda, pringles, sour life savers

and im not shittin you. and whenever i try to discuss her diet and tell her how she SHOULD be eating she gets defensive and tells me im being pushy. all i do is make recommmendations! tell her that the ice tea she is drinking is all sugar. and tell her that just cuz she may have a salad a day, dont mean her diet is nutritious. i dont know how she manages to keep a nice figure. we actually got into it tonight. i basically let it all out and told her how i felt. she got all melancholy and said that she would try harder for me. and i was like, thats not what frustrates me, i want you to do it for you.wtf????

Reg, you're going to have to step back and relax for a moment. First of all, her dietary habits probably didn't deteriorate overnight. It would be interesting to learn what sort of diet she observed while still living with her parents. Unfortunately many of these problems originate in the family home. So effecting a drastic change will probably be painful for her and as a consequence for you as well. You'd probably be better off making small changes (HOW DO YOU EAT AN ELEPHANT? ONE BITE AT A TIME.)

In your post you made little mention of the emotional make-up of your girl, probably rightfully so although you could hide behind anonymity. Americans live in an environment of instant gratification and believe it or not sugar heavy products frequently serve to appease some shortcoming the individual senses within himself/herself. How does she feel about herself? Usually people with healthier self-esteem levels tend to adopt a lifestyle conversant with taking care of themselves. I knew one girl who rewarded herself with a diet based on sugar/sweet products because of an innate sense of self-loathing.

In a nutshell, change will come about in short little steps. Be the positive influence on her without being overbearing and strive to inspire her to modify unhealthy habits. Good luck.

You'll never be able to "brow beat" somebody into a lifestyle change. The best thing you can do is set a good example and inspire her that way. I wouldn't be surprised if over time she doesn't gradually start to clean up her diet and become more intersted in staying fit. It has to be her decission though. It's something that she will have to want to do and not something that she feels pushed to do. I never asked my wife to come to the gym with me. However, several days a week she would see me trudge off to the gym. After this went on for so long she decided she wanted to come with me (probably to make sure I was focusing on my workouts and not some chicks posterior. lol). Well now a team of wild horses can't keep her away from the iron. She's as focused and committed to training as I am. But, as I said, she did it totally on her own without the slightest bit of prompting from me.

The moral of the story is: Woman will not respond to a bunch of pressure. Set a good example and when they decide it's time for a change, they'll make up their own minds. Beware though. When a woman commits to something like that, they can become more dedicated than you in a hurry. lol.

and that her food intake will eventually catch up with her....have you tried to cook for her? ...be all romantic about it, light candles, put on maxwell, bust out your favorite nice attire and make something you would eat.... also, are there things that you do that make her crazy? try and swap... Be like ok, if you eat better, ill do whatever it is you want me to. I know you want her to do it for herself...maybe she just needs some help and then eventually will see its rewards... But anger is NOT the way to get the message across... be slick bro... Good luck.

thanks everyone for the great advice. i think her eating really does have to do with her upbringing, she was pretty much raised by a single mom and left alone alot to watch after her baby brother. shes only 20. thanks again everyone.
