substance abuse problem

i don't want to call anyone out here, and if you are uncomfortable with or dont want to admit anyting i understand completely. has anyone here experienced or have someone close to them experience problems with substance abuse? i am thinking along the lines of alcohol, but it could be anything from meds to heroin. if so, what was the outcome of the problem? thanks in advance if you reply.

my brother who was 9 years older than myself had a problem with pain meds/methadone and xanax. He passed away after his 4th O.D. in his sleep on September 26, 2001. He was 30 years old... same age as killz. He also was a "hardcore" bodybuilder. His injuries kept him from training, so he began self-medicating himself just so he could workout.

If you look in the articles section, there is one written by me called "An Angels Motivation." Spook posted it for me, so it's under his screen name.

I was pretty heavy into smoking the green for a while (hence my screen name.lol) but I've kicked that habit now for 6 months or so.

BTW, I have a lot of friends my age (23-24) that are serious alcoholics already.

For whatever reasons a person comes up with, substance abuse is really abuse of one's self. The reasons vary but have one common denominator, you are so unhappy with some aspect of your life, some part of you that you just can't accept, and you try to drown it out/alter it.

I started using soft drugs when i was 12 years old. by the time i was 15 i was hard into whatever i could find. I grew up without a dad and my mother was too concerned about her own lonliness to worry about us children. I left home when I was 15 years old. I rasied myself. At one point i was living in an alley way.

I tried to "off" myself twice before i was even 18 years old. I'm so glad i failed. I hid behind whatever buzz I could find. Life was this terrible dark place with no hope, and I had failure after failure.

I went back to school at the age of 25 and got my grade 12. I applied to colledge and took a 3 year computer programming course, got excellent grades and have been employed at a decent job ever since. I've got an incredible marriage to a very special woman who saw through my harsh, street hardened exterior and helped me back onto my feet. I'm going to be having a baby!

Yes, you overcome substance abuse. You just have to want to. You need to realize that the sun rises and sets for every person, its what you do in between that counts.

Awesome little tidbit about yourself, good to here you got your life straitened out and are on a clear path to success. Congrats on the baby, I had a baby girl last August. Damn she is already going to turn 1 next month, time fly's.

Have had friends with coke addictions, meth addictions, pain killers, booze, that pretty much covers it. Some of them have worked thru it, some haven't

The difference between the two groups is that the one group decided that enough was enough, and straightened their shit out. The others...well I did my best for them until it was obvious that they weren't going to stop no matter what I did. So I walked away. It was tough as hell to do in one case in particular, but I wasn't going to let myself get dragged further into depression and all the other garbage.

Personally, I don't think that continually talking with them about it makes any bit of difference after the first conversation. In one case I used poetry to convey my feelings. Until they decide to change, there's very little anyone but them can do.

On a better note, Congrats on being a father soon. My daughter is just over 4 months and is just the center of my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used to have a problem with meth.I have been off of it for over four years .I still have cravings for it but would never do it.When you get dependent on a substance like that you also become very selfish,not always realizing who you are hurting.Before I quit doing it I was in my car with my kids and ready to drive off a cliff with them.It was at that point I realized I needed to clean up.I am a very mentally strong person for the most part and drugs like meth can really screw you up.And your family.I know that is alot to admit to.But I am totally clean from it and won't ever consider it again

Someone in my family is an alcholic. They recently have taken steps to overcome their urge to alkie... It's scary how substance abuse of any kind can change a person. I think what is helpn my uncle beat this obsticle is the lord, along with our family. This isn't the first time he has tried to beat this disease, but this is the first time IN A LONG TIME he has been his old self. THe loving and caring uncle he use to be.

i was in the same boat as rl and i was bad i did a lot of it (like 4 or 5 peoples share) a day and i have kicked it and have ben clean for about the same time i didnt have any prob kicking it i slept for about 2 weeks and then woke up looked in the mirror and said what the hell am i doing !
i stoped that day and havent tuched it from that day on

my best friends older brothers, whom i looked up to all my life were both dependent on different substances. The older was addicted to heroin, and died of an overdose a few years back... he had just taken steps to recover and had taken an extended vacation to get away from it all... when he returned we all thought he was done with it, but died a few weeks later. A year later his other brother... who was the biggest SOB i have ever met... pure muscle, about 6'3 295... died from a valium overdose. He too had just gotten out from rehab in San Diego for it. A week before he died, the border patrol had to take him down at the border of mexico because he was so fucked up off of valiums. It took 6 guys to bring him down at the border, and when they finally did... he threw up nothing but blue pills as far as you could see. When he died he was taking 90 valiums a day... an insane amount. I stopped taking muscle relaxers and pain killers recreationally after that... i used to take them a lot, but realized it just leads to bad shit.

If id a known it was gonna be this kind a party, id a dipped my balls in the mash potatoes...

who have been struggling for sometime and I know of two of them who have cleaned up since. I remember encouraging one guy as much as I could to clean it up and he emailed me a couple of months ago to thank me and let me know that he has been clean for sometime now and has found faith in God to help him. Drugs are far too common and it stinks to see how lives get destroyed. I like alcohol to numb me when I'm feeling blue or to relax me after a really stressful day, but as I was telling Treny earlier tonight about a couple of friends at some classes I was at in his hometown, they can't handle moonshine very well. They were in a room with about 20 other guys hitting the moonshine and they passed out where they sat watching tv that night. One of my friends woke up with a guy spooning him and the guy pissed all over him in his sleep. The exact same guy pissed all over another friend the year before.

Now I don't get drunk period...I want to stay sober so I can laugh my ass off at these guys cleaning the piss off their asses and tell everyone at work about it.
