Depression and HRT

Good to see a section dedicated to HRT/TRT. A lot of younger and older bros can definitely benefit from you and your knowledge

Read three studies over the last week that directly tied depression in older men (33 and up) to lower testosterone levels. A particular case study had three sets of subjects on three separate forms of therapy to counteract the depression; trt, placebo, and anti-depressants. The results overwhelmingly pointed to TRT as the most effective course of action in relieving depression. If you really think about it, women are given HRT when they hit that 'point' in their lives, and this is an acceptable practice, however, men are prescribed anti-depressants or their lives are chalked up to a mid-life crisis problem.

Since being on HRT, I cannot begin to tell you how much more my mental capacity, reasoning, and overall outlook on life has changed for the better. I once took anti-depressants, however, once I truly educated myself and understood that I have low testosterone levels, and how to effectively treat those levels, did my life turn around for the better. I will not take anti-depressant meds again, and hopefully having you on this forum will give a lot of mis-guided and uninformed bros the power to actually question the medical establishment and properly take care of their personal wellbeing.

You have astutely pointed out the disparity between how the conventional medical community treats females and males.

A good friend and colleague of mine, Dr. Larry Komer (who runs the most prestigious HRT for men clinic in Canada) has taken on a Psychiatrist full-time. This shrink believes that men who are hypogonadal CANNOT be sucessfully treated for depression until their hormone levels are restored to appropriate levels. The goal is to wean men down from their anti-depressants over a year's time. I have several patients who have dramatically reduced, or eliminated altogher, their antidepressant medication through TRT.

I will try and find the web versions of the articles as I read them via two periodicals and a newspaper and not on the net. If this can help your Dad, like it has helped me, then I will find the links for you bro. It changed my life! Please tell your Dad that I know how he feels and there is a light at the end of his seemingly neverending dark tunnel. HRT did it for me.

I'm out there 4 times/week for school... I used to live in Waterford Lakes a few years ago... Brittany at Waterford Lakes apartments right across from the 7-11 and Gators.
