I'm really frustrated with setting up my meals for Mr. X's CKD worksheet. For instance: I'm 197 lb and according to that worksheet day 2 looks like this:
BMR - 2128 cal/day Fat - 177 grams Protein - 84 grams Carbs - less than 20 grams Well, from http://www.fitday.com I got the number of calories, proteins, fats, and carbs for some of the foods that are allowed for CKD: Calories/Fat/Carbs/Proteins Beef jerky 1 cup 39 2 1 3 Egg, whole, boiled 100 7 1 8 Cottage cheese, farmer's 1 cup 311 21 5 25 Spaghetti, 196 1 39 7 Rice, white, cooked, 1 cup 203 0 44 4 Milk,1% fat 1 cup 102 3 12 8 White potato, baked, 134 0 31 3 garlic powder 1 tablespoon 28 0 6 1 pepper, black 1 tablespoon 16 0 4 1 Apple, raw 1 cup, 74 0 19 0 Fish,smoked 1 cup, 35 1 0 5 Sardines 21 1 0 2 Polish sausage 704 62 5 30 Bread, white, 125 3 22 3 Honey 1031 0 279 1 Broccoli, 27 0 5 3 Lettuce, raw 65 1 11 5 Flaxseed oil, 1 tablespoon 120 14 0 0 So my question is....how am I supposed to make a meal plan. It is rather difficult to keep the number of proteins at cetain level (per CKD worksheets specifications), without over(or under)shooting the fat or carb level. Lastly some meals are not ought to be eaten for breakfast..... like broccoli...nobody eats broccoli for breakfast....Is my logic right ? I understand that numbers are very crucial for CKD, but you guys make it seem so easy....I just have no idea how to make my meal plan ? P.S From that fitday.com website I got beef jerky (1 slim jim) to have only 3 grams of protein....can it be that low ????? Thanks you all for reading, and thanks for any advices... Adam |

I think the easiest way to do it would be to look at the total amount of food you can eat in the day and divide that by the number of meals you are going to eat.
For example if you could eat 2128 Calories consisting of 177 grams of fat and 84 grams of protein per day I would divide that into 6 different meals 84 grams of protein / 6 = 14 grams of protein per meal 177 grams of protein / 6 = 29 grams of fat per meal That would allow you to have 14 grams of protein and 29 grams of fat per meal. It's a good idea is to put together a menu for yourself of mini-meals that meet your meal fat and protein requirements. Here are some mini-meals ![]() You could easily get 30 grams of fat in a low-carb salad (no starchy veggies -- carrots, pees) with 2 tablespoons of dressing, throw a few slices of turkey or ham and you are good to go. You could eat some jimi-dean sausage which is really high in fat (I think 9grams of protein and 22grams of fat for 2 oz.) mixed up with an egg. The first two days of the ckd are the most difficult because of the high fat to protein ratio, but once you are past that hump you will find it much easier to put meals together. |

Yea....I need to sit down and design a "master plan" for all the meals.... and just stick with them... Just like hermiti said, it's a good idea to divide total cals(proteins/fats) into six even portions (meals) It makes things easier..... |
