Default cardio before weights!?

so many people i have spoken to lately are doing cardio before weights. I know its meant to be a non-no, but would it help if you are trying to cut up rather than bulk?

I would never do cardio ever before weights , whether you are cutting or bulking. The 2 should be seperate. if anything you can do it afterwards, but then again if your goal is straight up catabolism of muscle tissue, knock yourself out..

The main reason you would do cardio AFTER weights is you'll more likely be in fat burning mode at the start of the cardio session. If you just start with cardio, it takes a good 20 minutes of activity to get anywhere near fat burning mode; if you train with some intensity before you do cardio, you heighten your chances of being in fat burning mode at the start of the cardio session instead of at the end.

Plus, muscle burns more kcals than cardio does, in the long run. Put your energy into lifting; you'll be better off.

One reason I don't do plyos before weights is that my CNS will be shocked so, that by the time I get into the weight routine, I'll not have anything left for an effective workout -- at least not for building muscle -- and as JJ said, muscle burns fat.

Do it after.

There's also a matter of wasting glycogen, and fatiguing yourself. I've heard my old gym clerk tell someone that. Terrible advice.

once in a while, I'll do about 4 miutes of low cardio before workouts. mosttly because I feel too tired to lift. gettint the blood flowin a bit does seem to help.
- but never any "real" cardio.

I could see a short session of some type of cardio, like Stair climber or treadmill before a lift, simply as a warm up. Personaly I like ten minutes or less, low intensity on a stair climber before deads and squats, makes a world of differance to the hips and hammys..
