why am i so shallow?

help me out. i went through a really shallow phase several years ago after a rough break-up with my girl. then after 6 months or so i decided to try to appreciate inner beauty and made friends with some ugly people and even had sex with some chubby girls. now i'm more shallow than ever and won't even be seen with less than attractive people.

i'm at the point now where i feel personality can only get someone so far but appearance is what really matters. i also find myself obsessing about my tan and hair.

why is this and is it wrong for me to be this way?

Part of those first issues could merely have been a desire for emotional revenge against your ex-girlfriend. Once a you and a woman part ways, it does sting for an ex-girlfriend to see you with another woman, especially if the other woman is considered to be pretty or even prettier than your ex-girlfriend. However, the man wants to be seen with a prettier woman than his ex-girlfriend just for some form of emotional revenge.

As far as going through the phase of desiring inner beauty, that could have boiled down to loneliness for something deeper. If you and your ex-girlfriend eventually came to a point in your relationship that went beyond physical, but mental and emotional, it is quite possible that you were seeking to restore that deeper part of the relationship that had been severed.

It is bad if it hurts people around you. Out of all honesty, if you cannot be physically attracted to a woman, it is difficult to be emotionally attracted. Part of the initial attraction with strangers that you first meet, is physical attraction. Later, the emotional and mental attraction may develop and make that person even prettier to you, or make that person uglier if she has a crappy personality. However, you may have a friend that you have known for a while who is just average or slightly pretty physically, but her personality may end up winning you over. A great personality can make a person very attractive physically to you or make the person very ugly if her personality is total crap.

damn, that is good advice. i actually ran into my ex for the first time in over a year last night and to my surprise she didn't try to get me beat up or put in jail. it was super!

something i'm noticing more and more lately is that ugly people have really bad personalities too in many cases.
