Do Sprained Wrists Ever Heal Fully?

I sprained my right wrist in mid-June and it fucking hurts when I flex the wrist while supinated. I don't even know how I sprained it, I just remember throwing 150 lbs back on the rack...I can't curl above 70 lbs without experiencing pain (after the set - that's the weird thing). I was able to get a radiologist to look at my ultrasound but she found no anatomical abnormalities. What gives, two guys I work with sprained their wrists years ago and it still gives them problems.

i have sprained my wrist and ankle. both occurred in my early teens and neither completely healed. in fact, sometimes i have to push the connective tissue in my ankle back into place with my finger.

it seems the older you are the more stubborn your connective tissue is about healing when it has been stretched too far or torn.

Try this:Hold your hand BELOW the wrist and pull.While you do that,have someone squeeze the two bones in your forearm together,and rotate in opposite directions,like an Indian burn,while squeezing.Sometimes one of those bones kinda "slips out"and this move can fix it.If that doesn't work,rub Arnica gel on it AM and PM.Wrap it before training.And don't do ANYTHING that irritates it.Period.Thinking positive thoughts about it couldn't hurt either.

Yes. I have hurt the lateral ligaments on BOTH of my wrists... first my left, then my right.

One thing that might help is doing a wider grip upright row -- I notice that many people who do heavier upright rows, with a narrow grip, really have big time wrist problems... I'm not talking shoulder width... but just move them out a little bit...

Pretty much from that point on, my wrists started to get better... and as a result, my grip strength increased...

The problem lies in the tendons and ligaments themselves. They don't have a blood supply, like muscles, so the healing time is greatly increased without a constant supply of nutrients and waste removal. They will never recover 100% after a serious sprain/strain, but with proper training and rehab they can recover to an effective degree. I agree with SYL, wrap them and stretch them, but always be aware of their boundaries. Good luck on the recovery.

When ligaments and tendons heal... they develop scar tissue. This reduces the elasticity of the membrane and sometimes realigns the small bones in the wrist and ankle... causing chronic pain and weakness. Sorry to say... you may battle this for a long time. You really should take measures to rehab the wrist and keep it as flexible as possible. If not... you could suffer from rhumatoid arthritis when you get older.
