splenda & fat?

just wondering if splenda/equal would contribute to weight gain?
it contains maltodexrin (sp?) - which is a sugar - so if taken in large amounts wouldnt that add up to a lot of carbs.. therefore leading to wieght gain? or lack of weight loss?

I'm starting to wonder about Splenda. I originally thought it had no carbs but I just read that each packet has almost 1gm of carbs and 5cals. I use it in my coffee, 3 packs in a cup, 2 cups in the morning and sometimes another in the afternoon.

Anyway, here's what the official Splenda website says:

Actually, they are saying that sweetners can contribute to increased fat. Something to do with fooling you body and it begins to desire real carbs. I'll see if I can find the info.

This is just crazy now days with all these fake sugars and all.....

I would think that the little bit of carbs you get from it are not really gonna hurt you. If it is only 1 gram per packet and you take 6 packets ED then you are fine. I have also heard the tricking your body thoery with the fake sugars amking your body crave and all.....

even if i crave carbs after splenda ( i dont think i do) but i dont have doughnuts,bread or pasta lying around anyway... so that not a probalem. im more concerned that im having too much - and all that adds up at the end of the day when my bf% wont budge at all. my diet and exercise are consistant - so it really shouldnt be so hard

Well...after reading those links and some others I'm gonna wind up weaning off Splenda.

I should probably just get off coffee too, which is what I mainly use Splenda in.

Grrrrrrrrrr...why are so many of the things enjoy so potentially dangerous or bad for me?

Sometimes it seems like in order to live to an old age I'm gonna have to give up so much that it'd make me misserable...or I could do all that I want and just die young and happy. Decisions, decisions.
