Many people that I know that use AAS; Yes I know a handful that are "On Cycle" as we speak, and have no regards to monitoring their health, and getting regular blood work done. High blood pressure is know as the silent killer because there are little to no symptoms. If you have symptoms they may be headache, difficulity breathing, headaches, low enegry, blurred vision, weight gain, rapid heart beat, and dizzyness. I see so many guys so worried about their balls shrinking up, loss of libido, or loss of muscle mass because of PCT (Post Cycle therapy) they forget to get regular blood work and physicals from their Physcian.

So what is High Blood pressure? First off their is 2 kinds; hypertension and hypotension. Hypertension occurs when the force (or pressure) of blood against your artery walls is too great, causing excessive strain on your blood vessels. Hypotension occurs when too little pressure causes an insufficient amount of blood to be pumped to the heart, brain and other internal organs, leading to dizziness or light-headedness. I will be talking about Hypertension in this article.

What causes High Blood pressure? Several factors are known to increase blood pressure, or primary hypertension, including a personal or family history of high blood pressure, obesity, heavy alcohol use, high sodium intake, and getting older. A sedentary lifestyle, excess stress, low potassium intake, low calcium intake, and resistance to insulin may also cause blood pressure to rise.

A key to healthy eating is choosing foods lower in salt and sodium. Most Americans consume more salt than they need. The current recommendation is to consume less than 2.4 grams 2,400 milligrams[mg] of sodium a day. That equals 6 grams (about 1 teaspoon) of table salt a day. The 6 grams include ALL salt and sodium consumed, including that used in cooking and at the table. For someone with high blood pressure, the doctor may advise eating less salt and sodium, as recent research has shown that people consuming diets of 1,500 mg of sodium had even better blood pressure lowering benefits. These lower-sodium diets also can keep blood pressure from rising and help blood pressure medicines work better.

Take this advice below and protect your heart. You can buy many in-expensive self monitoring kits for Blood Pressure. I know I had 190/86 (Off Cycle) by simply decreasing my Sodium, Salt and the tips below has gotten me off of high blood pressure meds. Many people that use AAS have a elevated risk due to steroids and increased caloric intake. Simply put dont half ass your health and get a full check up on cycle and off cycle.


Here are some Key tips to reducing Salt and Sodium from you diet.

1. Buy fresh, plain frozen, or canned "with no salt added" vegetables.

2. Use fresh poultry, fish, and lean meat, rather than canned or processed types.

3. Use herbs, spices, and salt-free seasoning blends in cooking and at the table.

4. Cook rice, pasta, and hot cereals without salt. Cut back on instant or flavored rice, pasta, and cereal mixes, which usually have added salt.

5. Choose "convenience" foods that are lower in sodium. Cut back on frozen dinners, pizza, packaged mixes, canned soups or broths, and salad dressings these often have a lot of sodium,

6. Rinse canned foods, such as tuna, to remove some sodium.

7. When available, buy low- or reduced-sodium, or no-salt-added versions of foods.

The 1st Number: Systolic pressure is the pressure generated when the heart contracts.


The 2nd Number: Diastolic pressure is the blood pressure when the heart is relaxed.

What is Normal Blood Pressure? Buy and use a blood pressure monitor. Compare your BP reading with the numbers on the chart above. Draw a line from your systolic pressure to your diastolic pressure. Is the slope of the line about the same as shown on the chart? Where do YOU fit in? What are your risk factors?

Are your blood pressure readings within the normal blood pressure range? Should you take anti-hypertension medication to lower your blood pressure?

Normal human daily Blood Pressure Range can vary widely, so any single blood pressure monitor reading is not reliable. BP monitor readings must be taken at different times of day, to determine AVERAGE blood pressure over time.

Nice post Adam. Everyone should pay attention to their BP. I was first diagnosed with high BP when I was in a car accident at 18 years of age. They did every test under the sun to me when I was in hospital to try and figure out why a healthy 18 year old would have high BP. Conclusion was they couldn't figure out why. Place me on medication which I soon dismissed as not necessary (18 and bullet proof) and went on with my life.

When I was 24 and had to go into hospital again for my first of eventually 3 rhinoplasty surgeries (rugby injuries). After the surgery my BP was off the charts and they wouldn't let me out of hospital. Another round of tests and again same conclusions. No phyisical reason for me to have high BP but it was prevalent in my family history. So back on medications and have been ever since.

I have tried more than once to go off medications and adjust my diet etc while closely monitoring my BP but nothing seems to work so I am now settled with the fact I will be taking this medication for the rest of my life.

Unfortunate you have to be on blood pressure meds, but consider yourself lucky that we have the technology to keep it under control. My dad has been on blood pressure meds for about 10 years so it runs in my family. I really have to watch what i eat, and i check my BP about 4-5 times a week just to make sure it's in normal ranges.
