I'll start by sharing first. My work sucks when it comes to dieting. I work in a critical care i.c.u. and our lounge is ALWAYS filled with the worst junk foods laying around making it very easy to fall into the call of a sugary temptation. Health care providers can be some of the worst influences when it comes to eating right. All the nurses I work with are either extremely over weight or just skinny fat with terrible eating habits. What is sad is, they have the education to know better, yet they cant find the discipline to take care of themselves. In their defense, most are working mother's with kids, extremely limited on time, and thus choose to put their health on the back burner. My co-workers have become acustomed to my scheduled eating habits but often times I get the "wierd" glare when I'm chowing down tuna and spinach at 7a.m. and then chicken with broccolli at 10. Everyone else is sucking down greasy bacon and egg tacos.

I normally don't allow others to sabotage my dieting/fitness plans. It's especially hard to get thrown off track when all my meals are planned. But if anybody can be the worst sabatoger to my goals is myself.

I agree with chiquita ultimately the only person that can sabotage your goals are you. However, my worst temptations are woman and alcohol. I ll go the gym put in 1 hour of sweat and elbow grease and then go out to the bars get drunk and party with girls until 5 in the morning. Not exactly your ideal training regiment. I think the best way to beat the sabotage is plan to succeed not plan to fail. If you know you are easily persuaded you should get all your priorities out of the way and then go play because nothing is worse than missing a workout and going out and getting drunk.

I am sure many of use are in the same boat. I work 11 hours a day, its hot as hell and I am on my feet the whole time. My body is never in one place for one minute, I am constantly moving. Although I am a manager and I "supposedly do not have to do the work" I end up getting screwed and doing lots of work rather than managing. There are vending machines everywhere. Trust me I always stop and get something cause I can not always make it back to the office for a protein bar, for that matter I do not even have time to make a shake. My job sucks sometimes. Between shifts I get like 10 minutes to do what I have to do and I am way past hungry by then and too busy getting ready for the next shift.

I am truly struggling right now with the gym and nutrition. Before I started my job in October 2006 I was 260lbs @ 6'2. I was pretty dang huge and I was in the gym 5 nights a week training like there was no tomorrow. Today I am about 235lbs, lost lots of muscle and I am getting chubby cause of my eating habits. I just do not have the energy to get to the gym anymore.

Hey Chiq thanks for the post, I was going make one similar to this for inspiration, but you did it for me. This is what I need. At least I know I am not alone and I am in control of my daily eating and training habits.

i have 4 kids , 3 adopted 12, 11, 4, 2 3 girls and a baby girl the youngest...i take care of them and Im 24 and I will be 25 in January. This has changed me 110%..huge long story

this has humbeld me and taught me alot

However it hurts my meals, diet, workouts, stress Im on the go go go and when I get a brake I feel like a old mother lol

Chiquitta, Know How You Feel, I Work Offshore Around A Bunch Of Middle Age To Old Men Who Eat Like Crap All The Time. You Should See The Junk Food Candy Bars, Chips, Ice Cream, I Mean They Have A Ice Box Just For Ice Cream About 30gallons Of It All Flavors. When I Am On A Diet I Just Picture How I Want To Look Then Look At Them And Say No Way I Am Going To Look Like That. Do You Ever Try Taking A Cheat Day Once A Week It Whatever You Want, It Will Not Hurt You, But It Gets Rid Of That Craving.

OH WOW!!!! First of all.... Kudo's to you for taking in the little one's, I can only imagine how crazy your life must be! But I'm sure you have alot of fun with the kiddos too.

Wow, you are a busy person on the go!!!! How do you strategize sticking to your schedule with soo much to do? I would imagine you do weekly or monthly meal preps to stay on schedule? I've put it into habit to cook at least 4 days worth of food in advance just to stay the course, I even had a friend of mine who would plan her family's meals a month at a time!!!! I thought that was pretty cool (a little anal retentive) but nonetheless cool if it meant staying on track to help her meet her goals while feeding the kids healthy meals as well.

There's nothing like a little motivation by looking at your peers who are out of shape to keep you on the right track!!!! I used to do the cheat meal once per week and had great success. Right now the new plan that I'm on though doesnt allow me a cheat yet. This makes it very difficult to go out with friends or family too. I dont have the will power yet to be able to sit in a fancy resturant and watch other people eat thier oversized dinners. And I'm tired of the crazy looks I get when I bring my own meals to the table. Unless your in the "fitness" lifestyle many people dont understand and think your nuts. I've had a couple of derailments that led to near disasterous train wrecks in taking me off course big time in recent months and this time I'm determined to take myself to the next level and fullfill my commitment to myself in gracing the stage once and for all. We can blame others for sabotaging our efforts but I think in reality we ALLOW outside influences in some capacity to get the best of us. I have a story: A few months ago my best friend admitted to me that she self sabatoged herself by not fullfilling her dream to complete the marathon that she had been training long and hard for. One day she was moving furniture and in a freak accident broke one of her big toes. At the time she was ranting and raving how pissed off she was that she was'nt going to be able to do the run she had trained for. Finally, though she spilled the beans to me recently that in all actuallity that she was RELIEVED that she did'nt do the run because of her fracture. She said over the course of her training she felt very overwhelmed with the rigorours meal prepping and runs. Instead of stepping back a bit and realizing she was overwhelmed she let was relieved she had an excuse to back out of completing the run and her goal.

Long story short... any kind of goal worth attaining is stressful, that's a fact of life but how we go about meeting it and completing self satisfaction is key! I know there have been plenty of days when I've wanted to throw in the towel and give up thinking what am I really doing this for??? In the end I realize it's for ME and no one else but me.... and I'm worth the sacrafice and effort and self sabotaging myself is not the answer.

Good luck meeting your goals.... Your worth every effort you put into yourself.
