Then You Get Old

Life goes along pretty good, and then you get old. I'm giving all of you young beauties the heads up, and wishing someone would have warned ME. You see, it's fine to go for 5 months without a period. The doctor says you are DONE with it when you've missed having a period for 12 months. (Somebody chose that arbitrary number of 12 months.)

So 5 months, 6 months...you begin to think you're over it...then BLAM! You bleed like a stuck pig.

My mom went through that for years, probably 7 or 8 yrs. of intermittant bleeding along with hot flashes, etc.

My friend had a couple of missed periods, then she was completely done, hasn't had one in 2 yrs.

I have a feeling I'm gonna be bleeding till I'm 80. Since my daughter was born I've never missed a period, even when on cycle. Grrrrrrrrrr!

Hi Puddles,

PMS? Hubby calls it "Permanent Menstrual Syndrome." I'm beginning to be able to tell when I'm going to have a period. It's just like the good old days, but it seems to last longer...the bloating, the crying, etc. etc...and then the house-cleaning frenzy.

I have always known it was time for my period when I go on a house-cleaning frenzy. Clean clean clean! Hubby used to enjoy having his palace cleaned once a month. Now it's every five or six months. That's OK. He laughs about it. (The vacuum cleaner is broken!)

I've had it with most doctors, although I really do like my oncologist. They just are so pill-happy! The Prempro helped with hot flashes, but I strongly suspect it caused my cancer. The Lexapro, stopped my crying, but then I realized that I enjoyed my tears. (Yeah, a little hard on the mascara, but c'est la vie!) One day, I looked in the mirror and realized that I don't look so bad, and that getting old is OK. The alternative to getting old is a grim scenario.

I DO cry a lot. But they are happy tears. Yeah, I miss my twins, but then I think how wonderful it is that they've found themselves and have flown off the nest. So yeah, PMS at this age is a rather permanent condition. At this stage of life, I notice a lot more swelling before I bleed--my feet turn into clubs! The best thing I've learned is to keep moving. Because my life is so centered around the computer and the piano, I just plain SIT too much. Moving around, visiting the neighbors--borrowing their KIDS--all that helps. I really really notice a difference on the days when I get to the gym. Activity seems to be the key.

Well, I talked about our pm to mom tonight and she's gonna get checked out.

OMG...permanent pms, I will not be able to handle well. WTF is wrong with Mother Nature to do this shit to us? I've had great results with Wellbutrin for ceasing my pms symptoms and will likely revert to it if needed for menopause. Doc won't give me hormones due to my history of cancer.

I'm considering thermal ablation to cease my periods since I'm done having kids and it'll let my ovaries work normally, at least I won't bleed anymore. Gotta look into this again with the hubby. I know I'd feel much better.

I had this strange experience yesteday...I actually woke up feeling very nasty and foul...all day...had to stop myself 3x from calling WBB and telling him I hated his f'n guts..LOL poor guy...he didn't even do anything............the entire day I was just very nasty frame of mind...it got manageable later on in the day....today we both laughed about it....but it was rather scary to just be like that out of t he blue when I've never had that before....

Puddles I've been very regular like clock work....I have missed periods on cycle but that's cause of what I was on...but they always start back up like clockwork w/in 1-2 cycles
