"Cellulite" What is it?
Cellulite is the appearance of an unattractive dimpled skin or dimpled fat on the or around the outer thighs, buttocks and other body areas where large areas of fat are found in close proximity to the skin. Women are more affected by cellulite formation than men, especially on the thighs. Cellulite formations start in puberty in women as hormones change. Most women over age 18 have some degree of cellulite. In men, loose fat on the chest (pectoral) area and the thighs can resemble cellulite.
A person does not have to be overweight, fat or obese to develop this dimpled skin called cellulite and cellulite is not always reduced or helped by weight loss.
The scientific theory of cellulite is that the skin's underlying supports called fibrous septae do not hold the skin together evenly and this uneven support causes the in the irregular bulging and dimples. The skin is tethered down by string-like tissues that pull it inward, toward the interior of the body. The tension of these strings pulls sections of fat in along with them.
Regular vigorous exercise is the best defense against the formation of cellulite.
Where do you find cellulite on your body:
Regular fat can be found anywhere on the body, while cellulite tends to settle on the following areas: Inner, upper and back of thighs; Upper back below the shoulders; Ankles; Inside and back of upper arms; Buttocks; Lower back; Hips; & Stomach.Where cellulite is present you might also experience further problems with broken blood vessels and/or varicose veins.
How to know if you have cellulite:
Press tissue between your thumb and finger, or between the palms of your two hands if it is "normal" fat, it will appear smooth, with no ripples or bumps if you have any ripples or bumps which look like "orange peel" you have cellulite.
The cellulite tissue is also sensitive. Although some medical practitioners do not believe in the term "cellulite" there are others that do subscribe to this term.
Cellulite - How is it formed:
All muscles in the body are covered with a padding of fatty, connective tissue, which varies in thickness, and is surrounded by a liquid - supplying this "covering" with nourishing and removing waste products.
This fatty tissue is held in place by a network of fibers, and when the system works well, ALL waste products are removed from this system - resulting in smooth body curves.
When the waste removal system start to fail, waste products start building up, and the connective tissue becomes saturated with liquid, which then thickens and hardens - forming hard pockets that puff up to produce the "orange peel" or "cottage cheese" effect.
The following are contributing factors in causing cellulite:
Insufficient water intake; No exercise; Constipation & digestion problems; Tension and stress; Pollution and incorrect breathing; Fatigue; Poor eating habits; Estrogen when secreted before each menstrual cycle as estrogen tends to retain water; Intoxication of the system.
What causes us to age?
Clinical studies have proven that Human Growth Hormone (HGH), the bodies messenger for repair and maintenance begins a long decline after age 30. HGH isreleased from the pituitary at night or between meal periods and rapidly taken up by the liver, which is informed chemically to make a myriad of Growth Factors.
These are chemical messengers that instruct the various cells of the body, be they nerve, skin, bone or muscle to rebuild and repair themselves to their unique specifications. As the Growth Factors are lowered with aging, less and less rebuilding is done. This is thought to be a major cause of the chronic conditions that speed aging.
As we age, hormonal changes alter the patterns of fat deposition throughout the body. Even vigorous exercise cannot alter these patterns of fat deposition. In men, fat tissue accumulates in the abdomen (stomach) area while in women fat accumulates around the buttocks and thighs. In both sexes, there is a general downward movement of fat in the face which leads to fat accumulating under the eyes, on the sides of the face (jowls), and under the chin.
