Wife is my lifting partner, help

So we have been lifting 3 or 4 weeks now together. Seems to be working out better than I would have guessed. She is making the normal quick gains, and now starting to get some intensity. For me, and by default now her , Intensity and form are the keys to lifting. I preach "With good form and enough intensity there is no reason to worry about the weight." I am able to coach her on form, as it is the same for guy, girl, or whatever... but intensity, not so much. I am used to working out with my brother. We used normal macho insults to raise intensity. We also used a good smack in the arm/head/back to remind each other not to "cheat". I do not think calling my with a "fucking lazy gimp" is going to motivate her. And I know a smack anywhere would not work out in my favor.

So... what works for you??

Positive reinforcement and a little pushing to get those last couple of reps with a good spot when needed. Physical changes and improvements when she looks in the mirror will be her biggest motivator.

Those changes are still coming fast right now.

For me, and this is all I know how to base things on, I need a little "fire" to push out the reps. Does it work the same way for you? Or do you use the "you can do it" method, or something else I am missing? I come from an all boy house. Getting in a girls head is not something I can do.

LMAO. Some ladies just have the intensity and some don't. Give her some time to see how she grows into it. When she gets farther out and she sees the changes, that in it of itself might be the motivator for her to push harder for more changes.

I couldn't agree more about the form comment either.

If he thinks I'm gonna quit the set and he knows I've got another one or two left in me he usually says something like "One more. C'mon, push! You got it...you got it!"

I usually don't need the push but it's fun when he gives it to me.

Voodoo... I guess the same holds true for guys too. Some have it some don't.

I think the real problem is, I need the "fire". Not sure how to lift without it. I guess I was hoping someone on here would give some magic words to light her up.

I have found that when training with ladies gentle but firm encouragement is what works - not the macho bullshit you would use with a guy but reinforcement that she can do it

the last female I trained - once she started to see muscles popping - didnt need to be pushed - the bug had bitten her deep and it drove her without me needing to - she really blossomed too - without gear she really put on muscle mass

it was a bit of a problem though because she still kept her femininity and her beauty - she was a hard package to pass by

i have trained with my wife since we were married, and I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS found that POSITIVE reinforcement is what worked.

ALWAYS.

I also trained her for 2 powerlifting contests...the first one she never entered, and the 2nd one was a bench-only meet where she hit 245 raw. The difference? Letting her do things "her way" while still doing them "My way".

If you've been married for awhile, then you know your wife, and this last statement will need no explanation at all.
