My dumbed-down version of how things works suggests the presence of fat in the presence of carbs is a recipe for an insulin spike which promotes the dreaded deposition of fat.
First up - is that a correct premise???? Second...I cant remeber where but I can remeber reading that the phenylanaline (?) aspartame etc.... whilst all almost zip calories, IS recognised by the by as a sugar with the appropriate GI value and hence in themselves promotes the dreaded insulin spike. Is that corrrect???? If so, would it be contraindicated to drink the stuff (which I do cause I'm WEAK!!!!) if there was much fat around??? TIA |

First up - is that a correct premise????in a sense yes, but I can give you an example of this notion being wrong: 1/2cup oatmeal, 1tbsp. flaxseed oil, 4oz. chicken breast and 15g psyllium husk fiber - the digestion rate would be so slow that you would not experience a significant problem w/ insulin spikes. So, yes, for some carbs (hi-gi) and fats this would apply but for others it would only be partial Second...I cant remeber where but I can remeber reading that the phenylanaline (?) aspartame etc.... whilst all almost zip calories, IS recognised by the by as a sugar with the appropriate GI value and hence in themselves promotes the dreaded insulin spike. Is that corrrect????asp should not promote an insulin spike unless mixed w/ dextrose/maltodextrin as it usually is. Phenylketonurics should not promote and insulin spike either If so, would it be contraindicated to drink the stuff (which I do cause I'm WEAK!!!!) if there was much fat around???you can drink some diet soda, but try to shine away from it; carbonation is one of the main reason for a decrease in protein senthysis/i.e. negative nitrogen balance Mr.X |
