HGH therapy and insurance, anybody on HRT???

Does anybody know if insuarance will cover the cost of HGH therapy? It is blue cross blue shield of Illinois-PPO. If indicated by a longecity clinic or by an endocrinologist. Its not for me, I have been telling my parents about HGH who are in their late 50's, and they are wondering if they could get it covered. Are any of you on HRT, and if so is it covered? If not how expensive is it? Thanks

I think you would need to get it prescribed by an in-plan doctor. GH is pretty rarely prescribed in the mainstream except for those with some sort of wasting disease or HIV. However, I have found it pretty easy to get testosterone prescribed by everyday doctors. If your levels are low, many HMO and PPO doctors are willing to prescribe gel or shots.

I suppose you could start by having your parents ask their in-plan doctor to do a panel of tests which would include IGF. If the levels come back low, they can try requesting GH therapy.
