Dan Duchaine was probably the most famous nutrition and steriod guru to ever walk the planet. His death on January 13, 2000, was a great loss for bodybuilding, and whether you hated him or loved him, you no doubt miss his controversial opinions. This is the last interview Dan Duchaine ever gave.

The Final Interview With Dan Duchaine.

TS: Hows your column in Ironman Going?
DD: Oh, I'm having fun because I get my sense of humor back compared to my days with Muscle Media. I have more freedom. The problem with that magazine, toward the end, was that they didn't want to discuss and kind of product that they weren't selling. If a competitor was selling it, we couldn't really talk about it; if it was not on the market yet, they did not want to hear about it. So that kinda restricts the palette of information quite a bit, I think.

TS: What's Bill Phillips like?
DD: Don't know. I wish I could tell you some really juicy facts, but remember, I'm here in san Diego, and the magazine is in Colorado. i didn't really socialize with him, so I wasn't part of his inner circle. I kind of was waiting for him to grow up [laughs], and in a way, he did. I"m adamantly stuck in the hardcore subculture, and he moved on to more mainstream things. I guess thats growing up. But I don't think his decisions in changing the magazine really paid off the way he thought they would.

TS: Lets talk about PGF2a. As you know, the drug reportedly causes muscle growth if you simply inject it and they lie around, waiting for you muscles to grow-kind of like a natural synthol. It's a hot topic on the Net right now. What do you think of it?
DD:I happen to know a guy who wrote about it on the net-Dharkam. Thats not his real name, but he is a smart guy. He's one of the two or three people I really trust. He's probably the only one, outside of myself, who gets really creative with the research. It seems that everybody else is timid, and you have to have a little bit of recklessness to be able to push the state-of-the-art of bodybuilding forward. If Dharkam say's it works, it probably does. I know there is no research on it, but I have know this man for at least three or four years.
