Steamed veggies. Are you sick of them and need some change?

Steamed veggies are still good, but there are so many ways to doctor them up.

Steam up whatever veggie or veggie combination that you would like such as broccoli only, or broccoli and cauliflower, or summer squash, zucchini, carrots, peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, beans, snow peas, or whatever combination you want.

Browned butter baby. Just put a half a cup or more of butter into a small sauce pan (however much you need to coat your veggies), cook it on medium or between medium to medium-high heat. Let it bubble and froth, stir it very regularly until it turns a golden honey color. To keep it from scorching, you will have to stay there and stir very regularly, stop, check the color, stir some more, etc... Coat or drizzle this over your steamed veggies, and then................

Mizithra cheese. It has been said that when Homer was writing his epic poems he practically lived on this cheese and there is a good reason why....it is freaking delicious! Mizithra is a hard cheese and you can grate it finely or coarsely over your hot veggies and browned butter and you will not be disappointed. Mizithra is not a funky greek cheese like Feta or some really funky goat cheese that reminds you of vomit in the mouth, but Mizithra has a mild and nutty flavor but with a little bit of saltiness. The browned butter also adds a slight nutty flavor once the butter is browned, so the mizithra adds to the wonderful flavor...almost hazelnut like flavor.

Also, you can do the same thing with pasta (although pasta is not that great for you carb-wise). Brown the butter (salted butter would be best for pasta), toss it into some cooked macaroni or small shell-like pasta, add fresh grated mizithra cheese (enough to get a slight sticky coating with all of the shells), and toss in some white or black truffle oil while the pasta is still really hot after it has been drained. This is truly the really good shiznit.

Oh, and if you have a half-way decent kroger store or a really nice liquor store that has a killer cheese section, you should be able to find Mizithra cheese there...around the Italian and greek cheese section. It is a very white cheese.

Sounds pretty good, Spook. I'll have to try it sometime. Going to see if Publix has that cheese.

I just had some steamed green beans with roasted almonds and grated some mizithra cheese over them. It was good stuff.

These sound right tasty Spook..sometimes veggies do get a tad monotonous so this is a great idea.
