Default Everyone's different...

..but when I cut I'm concentrating more on daily calorie deficit and increased fatburning from intense training. The empty stomach cardio theory is crap. If you wake up and train without eating what do you think fuels that workout once glycogen reserves are done? Hint, it ain't fat its muscle. Pulling Aminos from muscle for fuel is much more simple for the body than tapping stored fat.
Eat a small Pro/Carb meal 30-45min prior to training(Whey-30g mixed in water over whole grain cereal-40g is a good one) that way you can give 100% to lean mass building/maintenance and after the weight training do 25-45mins cardio just fro the metabolic boost and calories burned.
If you keep daily carb intake low maybe just pre and post training and consume adequate protein you will lose fat.

Default schedule is a big factor

I have a hard time working out on an empty stomach though. One of the absolute best workouts ever was after waking up early in the morning and eating 2 sausage egg McMuffins...those are the bomb baby! I feel that my workouts have always been topsy turvy anyway. Somedays I might feel like crap after i wake up but be surprised by a good workout, other days feel better after being awake for several hours and work out. Energy levels, what you eat, and hormonal levels are key, but all of that can be manipulated depending on how you feel too. Work it as best as you can and make it work for you bro.

I don't agree with working out on a empty stomch either. It just doesn't make any sense. Your body needs fuel and if it doesn't have it, then it's gonna burn muscle....end of story! I agree with what you're saying spook.

Default A.M cardio followed by P.M workout

This works wonders.....don't change a thing other than add in the morning cardio before any meals....ok...maybe an small apple for a bit of a rush the first few times, but then cut it out and do it on empty. 45mins - 1hr, differing intensities, different types of cardio.

its good for dropping a BF% or 2 and still keep up the gains.

...you go to bed let's say 11pm. You drink a slow protein shake. That should protect you from canibalizing muscle to repair other muscle. 7-8hrs pass and your tank is empty, now you train? For what, shrinking?
If you don't stop that overnight fast from working on breaking down muscle for aminos, you don't grow like you could. Try to at least drink 30g of whey before ANY a.m. exercise. The little extra if any fat loss by keeping an empty stomach, is far outweighed by the benefits of stopping the overnight fast as soon as possible. Try it if you like mass, or do it like you've been and defeat all the training from the day before by robbing your body of what it needs
