Deads

I think that I have thrown them out of my workout for good whether it be bulking of cutting.......I cut the weight to only 225 maybe 275 for 8-10 but my lower back is getting to wide......I think I will just stick with high reps and leave it at 225 from now on....Anyone else just stop doing them ecept on occasion

I went for quite a while one time not doing them because my lower back would cramp up from them. I just decided it was a time for a change instead; found other ways to work the hams and glutes without all the cramping until I could do deads again.

I've been having good results w/20 rep deads...but the kicker is, do them HIT style, and use your 10 rep wt. for a forced 20 reps, setting the bar down between rest pauses in the rep pattern...one set @ 405 or so and then one of pullups and no more back work for the week...destroys you....

..I attacked the deadlift for about 6mos while Bulking last/this year. Went from "never" to 485lb Double at 200lbs. Got some really good overall back thickness and it was a great way to re-start Trap growth. Only problem I now have very thick wide obliques. My abs are in I'm down to 188lbs 8-9%BF but midsection is too thick. My obliques almost look like love handles(not that bad but definitely noticable). I have been doing a lot of High rep low weight cable crunches and Good mornings in an attempt to "train down" my midsection. I know a powerful core is important, however I'm in to asthetics too. The big waste look sucks. I'm 5'8" with short legs 30"inseam, I was a 32(loose) prior to bulking w/Deads. Now I'm a 33(ripped).

A great way to increase your deads, without actually DOING them... is to hit exercises like good mornings or rack deadlifts... they will allow you to increase your lower back strength as well as overall pulling strength without going through the entire pulling motion of deadlifts...

Also, if you are worried about your waistline, wear a weightbelt... many pros do this as it takes the focal point of the pressure off the obliques (which will cause them to grow outward) and places it on the front of your abdominals... so not only will you be hitting the front of your abs, but you will start to maintain a contoured V shape through your obliques.

I absolutely love deads, but I understand where some of you are coming from.....getting that "V" shape. But how can you attain mass without sacrifing your waistline, I'm like Bronc...went from a 30" waist to a 34" waistline <img src="http://www.massmonsters.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif" alt="Eek" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->!!!
