I had a liitle trouble with my knee i had a weird grinding feeling and my knee hurt for a week. so i started doing sumo deads with moderate weight and heavy leg presses going all the way down and up not doing any less than 10 reps. i do 3-4 sets of presses nad 3-4 sets of deads and my legs have never looked better. squats feel good but for the strain and damage they do i feel they are not really worth it iof u want to be able to move when u are older jmo. good luck kills

I've been lifting since before I was 21 and believe me what you can do at 21 and what you can do 28 years later are different.
But, enjoy it while you can. Just have a plan to switch over to when you've got the size you want and you don't want to risk the knees. They become very important later in life!

The future prospect of not being able to walk at all kinda, or at least limping, hampers the "train no matter what" principle...I see plenty of guys come into my work that are old before their time due to knee/back/hip problems...Lots of them are in their mid 30's and have anti-inflammatory and/or painkiller rx's in doses/quantities that an elderly man/woman would...That sobers ya up real quickly...

Knees truly are the shits though...My MCL(s) and menisci have never been the same since being cut on for football...Although my stupid ass still tried to play arena ball here last year...Torn ham and torn tri stopped that dead...So why not be even stupider and try to wrestle??...ahhahaha...Never satisfied, I guess...

--> facsia stretching has mitigated effects some. heavy squat press gives me results, alternated between hacks and smith squats every other week, and high-rep negatives on leg extension, fwiw. squats still rule.

Good thread guys. This has been a topic of debate for me lately. My partner gives me a lot of crap for doing what he calls body builder squats. I don't go below parellel and he goes ass to heel. It's not so much my knees as much as my hammies. No matter what I've tried to do I cannot lenghten them. Genetic curse I've had for life. Even without the weight I just cannot do it. I'm 115 doing about 185 for reps. Now I can just say "oh I'm saving my knees". <img src="http://www.massmonsters.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif" alt="Wink" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:
