I gots an injured deltoid and was wandering if you guys could give me some advice on what I should do about it and if anyone else has expierenced injuring their deltoid. I'll give the short run down on what happened and what it feels like.
Yes I did say just one deltoid (right one) weird uh? Anywhoo It was about a month ago when I was maxing out on my bench press on a bowflex (you know with the rods and all) When I almost completed the rep my right arm just gave out and a sharp pain went shooting in my right deltoid. Ever since I try to stretch that deltoid before and after chest workouts but when I get up there in weight (and sometimes low weight) that pain is there. Sometimes when I straighten my arm out to do curls the pain will shoot down my forearm. I don't know what to do. Should I hold off on chest exercises for a period of time? Maybe cut out the bowflex? Or something else. It fustrates me because I know I can workout my chest a lot harder but that right deltoid limits me. Any advice I sure would appreciate it! Thanks, Andrew |

Bro, you basically have your anterior, posterior and medial portion of your deltoid in conections to your trapezious. It sounds like your injured your anterior. I tore my rotator cuff and went through physical therapy. The best thing you can do is the ice, heat combo. Take a bag of frozen veggies and place on your shoulder for approx 10 minutes. Then take a wet wrag and microwave it until it's quite hot and place on shoulder (or can just soak it up with hot water) for approx 10 minutes for a total of 40 mintues. 20 total for ice, 20 total for heat. For exercise, layoff the heavy weight for at least 3 weeks (I would suggest more like 8 weeks) and do just sculpted/flex (cables, light side raises etc.) excersises with minimal weight to help build your shoulder back up. A tip for benching, bring your grip closer in to eliminate less stress on your shoulders. If your injury does not go away after two months, you should check with a doc. You dont want scar tissue to start building up. Good luck !

I agree with all of the above and will add if you do an excercise that hurts the area stop, you will learn as I have that if you keep making it worse you will never improve, there are a lot of movements that you can choose for chest but right now you need to keep it high reps light weight and flush the area with blood, i also like to use a heat linament such as icy hot for the area and massage it when you are sitting around watching tv and especially good time is after you get finished working out or heating it as was explained in the above post...DO NOT BENCH with a straight bar until it does not hurt a bit..

Deca could solve,it has in my case with a similiar injury, but I recommend you stay away from heavy weights and barbells for the duration of the cycle, you will wind up thinking you are healed and go back to pressing heavy weights and then you will come off the deca and then be in some serious pain bro, remember it takes time for stuff to heal, let it heal and in time you will be back benching more than ever, fuck that shoulder up and you will be doing pilates..lol!
