Default Deadlift workout 10-9-03

Sumo dl off 5" platform
145x3
235x3
325x3
415x2sets of 3reps

Conventional stance dl with axle
225x3
315x3
405x3
425x2 Grip failed.

Turns out the gh bench I thought I was gonna pickup didn't work out. I honestly thought I might have to get a tetnis shot after just LOOKING at this thing. Total pice of crappola. Did do gh raises off the floor. Just had my coach hold onto my ankles and I lowered myself, pivoting at the knees, until I was about to fail then back up.

Didn’t you find you were starting to get tired with your traditional lifts that you did after your sumo? I will either do one or the other but never both it the same day, I just can’t give it 100% for the second exercise. I’ve taken a bit of a break form the dead but will be doing them again soon

Hey Finn, what are these gh raises that you mentioned?

I take it the deadlift is your expertise? how did this come to be? i think the dealift is such an akward lift, at least for me, however, you seemed to have excelled at this. would like to hear how this came to be your forte. props

As far as pulling with the 2 styles, the platforms I use for speed off the floor & as a primary strength builder. The pulls off the floor are mainly for grip as the axle is 2" diameter & smooth, plus I'm not using it for max weight.

The gh (glute-ham) raises are done for..well, glutes & hamstring strength. Basically, get on your knees (I recommend a pad), have someone hold your ankles so ya don't pivot right over, and by bending at the knees lower yourself forward until you feel that you are gonna fall, then raise yourself back up.

I guess I could be called a dl specialist, although I have a long way to go. I partly fell into it as my arms are way too long to be a worthwhile bench specialist, but pretty well suited for deadlifting. When I came into the gym about 2-1/2 years ago I really had no expierence lifting. So I started off as a powerlifter. Between heavy squats and heavy deadlifts every week, my back has developed pretty well.

As far as deads being awkward, it may just be your form in relation to your body type. Given my height & torso length, I have found sumo stance (outside edge of each foot lined up with the rings on the bar) to be the most comfortable for me. I don't really care for the conventional style, but it is a very good compliment exercise as it will hit some muscles that sumo stance doesn't hit. Therefore you are going to see an improvement in overall back strength.

Great workout Finn. By the way I love gh raises, I think thy are great at 4x6 I'll usually hold a 45# plt.
