Greeting everyone, this is a first time post. I am 29 years old...6"3' and 245. Bodyfat 23%...I know this sounds big, but I had recently fx my ankle and sat on my ass eating for two months. This weight is up from 225 and 15%. At the peak of my training is was lifting 1 bodypart per week, doing cardio 5 times a week (usually running 3 miles (23 minutes), stationary bike for 20 minutes and swimming 20 laps. During this time, I followed a 40-30-30 diet of approximatley 2000 calories, consisting of low glycemic carb...very clean eating. My weights in the gym stayed fairly consistent and I didn't lose much muscle. Does anyone have any suggestions for caloric intake? Should I increase it for that high level of activity or should I stay around the same? Thanx

Stick with what works for you. I would drop the swimming though. Studies have shown it to be a poor choice for fat loss. Ride the bike or use the elliptical trainer. Also how many meals a day are you doing? I would suggest 4-5 small meals to keep the insulin levels normal. Also good point with the low glycemics. Stay away from potatoes,rice and any sugar. Calories seem low though for a guy your size.

Hey bro, I am same height and weight you are, coincidently. Many people may rebute my theories, but I am a firm believer that counting calories is over rated. Forget the calories and doctor your metabolism. I haven't worked out in a long, long time, and recently started back. When I did, I began eating clean. A.M.-6 whole eggs scrambled with lean red meat and a little oat meal. This meal remains the same, usually. Then I started with a regim of a chicken breast, cup of rice, and serving of vegies three times a day. Each week or two I increase the frequency and number of these meals. Now I eat twelve chicken breasts a day, half a truck load of rice, and a garden of vegies each day!!! I take less "vitamins" than any of my buddies in the gym, and make the best gains. I am holding at 240 pounds but my body fat dropped from over 20% to now just under 10%, all withing six weeks.
You can buy boxes of frozen chicken breasts from any meat market that are pre-seasoned. You throw them on the grill or the George Foreman frozen, and within ten minutes, you are good to go. What's more is that they taste much, much better than plain chicken breasts. A ten pound case is usually under $30.00 |

Thanks for the tip on the forzen chicken breasts. You may have just saved my taste buds life. I am literally forcing down Chicken Breasts because the way I make them basically sucks. But if I get a couple breasts in the a resturaunt (chicken breasts that is not referring to female but always on my mind) they are usually damb good. So if these frozen one's you are referring to are somewhere in the middle (taste wise) I'll be happy <img src="http://www.massmonsters.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:
