What style of training are you doing that your bench is stalling? A good thing to do that helps is just toss on those 2 1/2 plates on each side everytime you bench and it will go up over time, they do add up over time and get quite heavy!

I've been doing chest on monday and arms on thursday.

The reason I've been stalling on bench is I've been using dbs all summer. I was doing 3 sets of 5 for a work set, and if I didn't hit it, I'd drop set back down. That was torture.

I was able to get the 90s up for 3x5, didn't get the 95s up for all 3x5 (only did one set of 5, then 4, then 3). Then my schedule got all fucked up. I have no clue what I could do on a bar. I'm switching back to the BB real soon. I just want to do the 90s for 3x5 before I switch back, so another week or two.

Yeah I did this same thing almost for a long time with DB's cause my shoulders were shot but glucosamine to the rescue!!!

I was using dbs all summer because there was really no one in the gym to spot me. Now that the semester has started again, finding a spotter shouldn't be a problem.

Yeah my new gym has a lot of Hammer Plate loaded machines so i have a blast on them. Can go heavy and not need a spot but it is just a ***** getting that first rep up. Feel like I am gonna shit myslef sometimes or pop a lung!

Very impressive bros. Just wanted to say I´ve decided to say goodbye for bench for maybe a year or so. Instead I´m going for my upper chest and really try to bring it up. See in many cases I see a lifter with high poundages on bench but still their chest might look flat or droopy. In my mind it´s the upper chest that really separates the good chest from so so.
As said this is MY situation here. Someone with less yrs of training might have different goals.... I´m trying my best NOT to thing about the weight instead the feel . No easy task for me.

I agree with you 100% on that. Upper chest makes the pecs look so much fuller and thick. I only do flat bench once in awhile and concentrate on my upper chest as well. Rarely do i do declines but i do them periodically to keep it symetrical.

I thought decline didn't really matter as far as chest growth? Everything I've read has said there's no "lower" chest area to work.


I agree on the upper chest thing. Mine has really filled in a lot over the summer, but I was concentrating a lot on flat bench. Doing pyramid incline after wearing myself out on flat must have helped.

I need to start putting incline in front of flat bench again. I might start doing that next week and I think I'm going to go back to flat bench BB. I'll probably keep doing incline with dbs though, I like the range of motion a bit more.

I could probably go in on Monday and do 85lb dbs for 3 sets of 5 on flat. What do you guys think I should do on flat bench with a BB instead? I'm thinking 195 or even 205 for 3x5.

db inclines always been a fave of mine. Too bad my jobs gym don´t have big enough db´s to do that. Have to use barbells instead. Have u people ever tried floor benches? Hist only the upper area. Another one is normal incl.benches but the trick is to do 6 sec reps . Count to 3 as u lower and without stopping again to 3 on the way up. Keep constant tension so no lock out or touching the neck either. A KILLER. Do them for shoulders as well.
